Anyone else get in on this this morning?
My son has a friend who works at EB, or I wouldn't even have heard about it (he told me last night just before I was leaving for work). There's an EB on my way home from work that's in a tiny strip mall on a busy corner that people must just overlook, because I drove by it at 9:15 and there were only 5 people outside. Fuck it, says I, got on the line and got the 7th of 12 "tickets" the manager allocated shortly thereafter.
By 9:40 he was out- and for the next 20 min it was a steady stream of late-comers who were reporting that every other EB/Gamestop in the vicinity was out as well (and there are a lot of them in the Chicago burbs). So I lucked out I guess.
So yeah, I froze my ass off for 40 minutes, but it's the first time I've ever pre-ordered a 'next-gen' anything, so I'm pleased. Reserved Zelda too, naturally.
Funny thing, by most reports there's a very good chance that you'll be able to get one 'walk-in' on launch-day, as NOA is claiming they'll ship 4mil by the end of the year. Only a fool will pay the 700-800$ people are hyping their "pre-ordered" Wii's on Ebay for...

I didnt preorder the wii, but i talked to my cousin.
He lives in St. Louis.
Says he couldnt skip work to wait for gamestop to open, so he went by at 10:26 (26 minutes after they opened)
Then he said, that, and every other one he went to, was out of reserves.

For anyone in Canada:
As far as I know, every Zellers is doing Wii pre-orders. The deal is:
-Wii ($280)
-That gay Rayman game ($60)
-Excite Truck ($60)
Coming to $400.
BUT!
The games are separate items on your receipt. I've asked a couple of Zellers locations and all of them say their managers have (secretly) agreed to exchange the games for others on the launch.
So that's what I'm doing.
The only problem is... technically they can stop you from exchanging them if you preorder before October 19 (30 days before the launch) because of their 30 day exchange policy. So the safest way is to preorder on October 19 and ask if you can exchange those games.

I was pretty sure that there would be enough at the major retailers to not have to worry about pre-ordering.

I've never seen a preorder stop anyone from walking in and grabbing something off the shelf.

Ouch but why.. Is that the maximum number they can order? Because they know they will sell more than 10.

I was able to nab one on Saturday at a Gamestop about 45 miles east of me. They had about 3 remaining tickets though the guy told me people that aren't able to get one on launch date will be able to get one a week or so after because there's not going to be a shortage.

If you live in Canada (I am unsure of what it will be like in the U.S.)...my sources have told me that a pre-order really wont be necessary...there will be plenty on the shelves
You just have to know where to look

CHIPMAN speaks truth, if you know where to shop in Canada i can guarantee you will find a wii without much hassle...none the less i got up an hour early before my uni classes and managed to get a preorder.

If anyone is still looking, I believe FYE is still taking preorders for WII despite them not having any signs in their store. I am unsure if it is guaranteed for you to get it on launch date. They are also taking preorders for zelda and ps3s, but I was told I wouldn't get my PS3 probably till January. Probably be much longer though :*(

Not to bring you down, Down, but there were several threads in the Gamespot Wii forum about the fact that FYE stores are taking unlimited pre-orders for Wii's despite the fact that they have no idea what their initial allocations will be. In other words, you may be the 100th person on the pre-order list at a store that will get 1 or 2 dozen... It's just what I've heard, and not set in stone, though.
