My friend is having trouble with his PC. He just sent me a link to this picture:

All his start menu icons are showing as unknown file types. They still open fine and everything but it is really ugly. Anyone know what may be causing this?
Thanks!

no
the icons (not including internet explorer) are all shortcut icons, you can easily replace them
disable internet explorer as your default internet browser in the start menu, create a shortcut of it and drag it to the start menu

New information. Apparnetly all the icons in my computer are messed up as well.
You can notice a few icons missing on the desktop including My Computer itself.

if the icons missing are of shortcuts, you can replace them
if the icons missing are from your actual my computer, you might have to do a system restore if it bothers you that much
