Who are the best demomen in TFC that still play regularly, and is there anything in particular that makes these guys the best (unjukeable, amazing blue pipe aim, impossible to kill, etc)?

Just wondering as I'm starting to get back into demoman, and I want to talk to these guys and see if there's anything I'm missing in my fourth slot.

blarg is pretty much unjukeable

wheaties can be juked but can repipe faster then anyone else

poly pipes well and is probably the best DMer when it comes to demo

Wheaties is the best ive faced as O demo in a while.
Its hard to judge whose the best at D demo, I dont think ive faced one yet that ive been wowed by, but I guess there hasnt been any maps where a demo can lock it down recently.

Its funny that players are using quick-det but somehow are absolutely terrible at playing the class.

I wanted to know as there was no real good thread about 2006's remaining top demomen, and I want to download their demos and check out anything they do different from myself.

Also if anyone has any demo tips other than the basic stuff like: Blue pipe body shots are mainly reaction and hitting 1/2 is a stretch, star/circle/square/random green pipetrap configurations, mirvs can cover your ass if you have 3 offensemen dancing around your flag, etc

I wasn't debating using a script to do it, but rather the notion that anyone can get away with piping a flag without having to time their dets or predict the enemy's movement. I could care less if its done manually, its still an exploit.

What is this det script you guys are talking about? As in what does it do?

the fundementals of this exploit is being able to shoot 2 pipes continuously, and only det 1 of them, letting you det the second pipe at ANY later time(even immediately)

you can do it manually, but its pretty hard to master, since it requires you to be constantly switching weapons as you repipe. a script helps you by making you switch weapons every time you det, or was it everytime you shoot, i forget.

however this is not to be confused with just detting, and shooting another pipe immediately afterwards, which is what arod seems to be confusing with the exploit. detting then shooting a pipe immediately afterwards almost gives the same effect as doing the exploit, its pretty easy to differentiate the two actions, i dont know why arod is so hung up about it.

and the reason wheaties keeps posting about us playing in australlia(i played in europe baby <3). anyone can det pipes with 20 ping, but can u DM, hit blues while accounting for lag, det with 200 ping and adjust to a different play style all at the same time? takes quite abit of skill wether u think so or not.

i've just confirmed that arod doesn't know what he's talking about, he was using a script to det, and i wasnt, infact, i wasnt even switching my weapons.

To clarify: The exploit allows you to det your trap even if you just fired another pipe. Without the exploit you'd have to wait until the ~1 second delay is over after you fire your last pipe. Using the script you can det your trap and already have another pipe on its way to reset.

We all know Castor Troy is the best demo.

Oh, and Vector (Neo as I knew him) used to use the quick-det exploit, but would do it manually, back when you could det immediately after you shot a pipe if you just switched weapons (the exploit that made Valve put the delay on pipes in the first place.) I remember playing with him on 2fort and he'd lock the basement down by himself, piping the spiral and elevator at once, allowing us to run 5 O. Pre-1.5 mind you.

The Vector and Ruiner joke gave me a good chuckle.

the detpipe;slot5 thing isn't what I have a problem with, it's when a player throws out a pipe before detting his big trap, only the trap dets and the single pipe is already in place undeted (either through script or lastinv) as to negate any delay in repiping. I think this is what arod is trying to say too.

jarek, with the lastinv;detpipe;lastinv thing (or variations) you can shoot a pipe and if you det right after, the pipe you shot first wont det, so you can continuously have a pipetrap (even if its one) with zero or nearly zero delay (which is what arod said)
