So yesterday I was bored and was browsing guru3d.com and there was a thread about overclocking a 7950 GX2 (I have the BFG card). Full specs can be found here (http://www.bfgtech.com/7950Gx2_1G_PCIX.html). Anyway, they said you can basically just up the core and ram until it becomes unstable. I have already upped the core up about 100 and the ram equal to that amount and my stress tests just get better and I'm having no artifacts, black dots, or anything that signifies instability. It still maintains 39* C, too (I have an aftermarket cooling fan). I heard people get the same overclocking easiness and stability with the 7600 series, too. Is it possible they really release these cards when there's so much more potential to be had out of them?

This is the first time I've overclocked anything.

oh it is definitely possible. My 9800 pro also gave excellent overclockng when I did so. My processor runs about 500mhz faster than stock speed with little to no problem. The 7950 GPUS are very similar to the 7600gt from what I have read, so it is very possible to achieve some great OCs. I recommend running 3dMark05/06 to check for stability.

I actually have a lot of questions about overclocking since I really have the time and money now to do that kind of shit and learn about it on the side. Maybe Janus could write up a quick faq or point us in a good direction to get started? Hell, I'm wondering if I could do it with factory install on my stuff since I have like 2 case fans.

I will see what I can do.

Although I do have access to some great forums with some excellent guides.

Here is a very extensive one for instance:

I simply downloaded Rivatuner and upped the core/ram speeds in intervals of ten, then ran a stress test each time I increased it, until I got scared to go any more, though I'm certainly going to keep pushing it until things start to get shaky.
