I ran the installer and registered with Steam and now it's downloading something ... I hope it's an update an not a new install, because two installs will suck. :o
Any ideas?
Edit: I bought this @ EB not through Steam.

My retail copy doesnt even involve going on steam. I just installed and started playing. Is there no option to do that at all?

Yah ok I figuired it out.
If you register it to Steam, Steam automatically downloads it. Anyone else experience your pc locking up tighter than Betty Ford? I've already discovered that Zone Alarm doesn't play well with it. I will say this, it give Oblivion a run for the money in the graphics dept.

yea, I heard that was about it for what it offered against Oblivion. There is multiplayer? How is that? Obilivion was a great game, but so damn lonely....

All my source games keep crashing with the sound looping at one point, including the DM demo. So, until I can at least play HL2: Episode 1 again without crashing, MAYBE I'll consider buying another game based on the Source engine..............

Glad you answered your own questions man because the game wasnt developed in montreal so i have absolutly no clue about it.
2 downloads? No way. Will i be able to play multi via steam using only the dvd and not the downloaded version?
I ordered my copy and should have it by next friday. (We always get games cheaper but always late :()

Update: still crashing/can't load level 2
Verty: get the latest videocard drivers that has fixed the sound loop problems for the most part, but I still lock up. I can't even play the second mission.
hard: I deleted the first/dvd install and just use the steam version now. so you could probably just register it with steam and let it download overnight.

Nah SV that doesn't work... while using HL2: Episode 1 as my reference for source games crashing, I've had the problem with Catalyst 6.5 through 6.9 and even tried the 6.10 beta a few weeks back, to no avail. I tried an older version of the Catalyst a few weeks ago, too, and it actually worked a little better, took more time before crashing (it usually crashes at very specific points). As far as the DM demo was concerned, after some tweaking, I managed to play the training part without crashing but then after the tutorial is done, the game boots me back to the desktop. So that game can go to hell because it seems extremely unstable, and if they actually fix those things, there'll still be the source engine crashing with the sound looping that Valve just acknowledged last week (after months of bitching on the Steam boards) but they are saying they cannot reproduce the problem on their side (the original thread had 1000+ replies)... So, no DM for me :x

Trust me, I've tried it all
Besides, it's stupid to play the game in a low quality settings when your machine is more than able to play it at a higher one.... The tech guy over at Valve told me to run the goddamned game in dxlevel 70.... That's dumb as hell.

ok here's what I've done to stabilize it (for the most part)
Updated my ATI drivers & Audigy drivers.
Defraged/Optimized steam cache files.
Run everything on low settings.
SAVE EVERY FIVE MINUTES lol
The game is pretty fun, but it's linear as DOOM 3 :/

So far I'm really dissapointed with this game. The demo showed a lot of promise, but the actual release isn't living up to that.
The objectives are stupid. Some of the fights are fun, but most are just tedious. The interface sucks. And as a lot of folks have noted (and my son said just last night) "Worst ending ever." But I'm not there yet...
The only good thing? With the retail DVD, you can do single player on 2 separate PCs, so me and the boy both get to play it for only one purchase (he plays with the DVD in, and I used the activation key and play on STEAM). The multi-play isn't that much of a draw...

I am really enjoying the game. It could be better, but its kind of a pioneer in the first person sword weilding genre. I dont know dick about oblivion, other than its similar.
Im enjoying it a lot, im hooked hard core when i fire it up.
