So right now ive been playing risk your life 2. its a free game, thus buggy its as fuck and crashes every 20 mins/lags every 5 mins and im really tired of it (plus 80% of the people that play barely speak english). its a fun game tho, but im looking for something better (NOT WOW). id like to be in the 20-30 dollar range so i can hopefully get my friends that i got playing RYL with me to buy it also. doesnt matter if its pvp/pve. ive been looking at lineage 2 (it looks awesome), but it looks immensely complex. i dont want to have to sit there for like 2 hours teaching my non gamer friends how to play :/
suggestions plz! ty

Almost every mmo is garbage, and if it's not, it costs money

lol lineage isn't complex at all. but trust me it's horse shit.
guild wars is popular, and you don't have to pay monthly. i've never tried it but i have a friend who plays it and he really likes it.

check the thread I just made about hellgate and gods and heroes. Both gunna be RPGs. Just hellgate for of a mixture of fps + rpg. Gods and Heroes has pve, pvp, and you can pick up off of quests like 9-12 human dudes to fight as your army in instances. The instances are said to be so huge that you have to setup camps to you can repair, upgrade armor etc. Both should be coming out soon.
and not much of news...but at least we have blizzards word sorta..

Also the head dude in charge of creating d2's mobs and shit was hired to create god's and heroes huge amount of mobs.

dungeon siege 2 is very easy to pick up, and a heck of a lot of fun to play with friends.

NWN2, if you can get past the extreme linearity at the beginning. It picks up tremendously once you get to Neverwinter.

I found the control in NWN2 to be really bad - and the combat was just, blah!
edit: it was my first D&D based game though...so...I'm sure I'm just used to easy control and combat schemes like dungeon siege 2 :)

lol my friend was telling me that the game was so glitchy and incomplete that he couldn't even play it. apparently there's a new patch out now that fixes a lot of the problems, though.

i remember playing the first DS and it was okay, but way too slow paced for such a simple interfaced rpg, the fighting wasn't complex enough (if i remember correctly spells were a bitch to get and there wasn't a huge variety in them)
i tried DS online and it was really fun but i didn't ever get into it enough to understand it. is DS2 better than its predecessor?
and to be honest; I am totally addicted to FFXII right now, and this is the first Single Player RPG that has ever had me playing nonstop. it is very psuedo-MMORPGish as Dogysamich puts it, but actually has an awesome plot and nice character developement. This is the best PS2 game out there imo.

yes I would say DS2 is better than DS. it moves along at a very good pace.

I'm having a lot of trouble hosting servers and shit, I really wish I understood networking protocols. What does it mean if I can see someone else start a server and join it, but they cant see me start one? We are on the same VPN. And no windows firewalls, at the same school as well (same dorm actually).

Strange, definitely sounds like like a firewall/router/protocol issue. sometimes something similar happens to me in starcraft - norton blocks the game so other people on the lan can't see me - i have to alt-tab and hit permit on the NAV popup.
