Search for rare dolphin ends in failure, expedition leader says Yangtze River baiji ‘functionally extinct’. First they beat dogs and now they wipe out dolphins. Factor in the piracy and the pollution and i mean seriously, is china good for anything?

There's no such thing as functionally extinct, the species either still exists or it doesn't exist. Perhaps it just evolved. :)

Well they went on one expedition and failed to find any so they declared them extinct. How many fishing expeditions have I been on and failed to find any fish? Does that mean all fish are extinct? We cant even determine if species are extinct on land with accuracy. Sometimes species thought extinct are found again in another area. Perhaps they moved because the yangtze river wasnt working out for them.
