so today after my finals i came home and just chilled, ate then i had about 2 hrs b4 work so i decided to take a nap, i was pretty damn tired. Now i was in the stage where ur eyes are almost closed and ur almost asleep but still aware of whats goin on around you, you know the stage where ur half asleep and half awake. but suddenly i opened my eyes and i started tripping, i looked at the ceiling and it was changing all of the colors and shit, i felt a little bit paranoid too, a little nervous, now the whole time i was laying down, for some reason i couldnt get up and after about 2 mins i passed out. This was def not a dream, has this ever happened to anyone? or does anyone know what may have caused that? i wasnt on any sort of drug or anything either

happened to me once. everything actually looked like it was in slow motion and everything was wavey. i was in the car driving from montana to NJ and it was my friends turn to drive. i think it was because i was super over-tried.

I get that every now and then, and after its done I open and close my eyes trying to make it happen again.

One time my dad woke me up in the morning on a weekend, then started using my computer in my room. I sorta dozed off again after he woke me up. Then something startled me, and I opened my eyes. I tried to get up, but I literally couldn't move. I was paralyzed, it was the weirdest thing. I tried to get up and move, I was trying to yell, but I couldn't make a peep. Eventually, my movement came back slowly, and it has never happened again. Scared the shit out of me when it happened though.

sometimes when driving home while too tired to do so, I see the road moving forward faster than the car, so it actually looks like I'm going backwards.

that happens, I think its called sleep paralysis like someone said. i think you're body is waking up while part of your brain is still sleeping, so you get caught in the middle of conscious/unconscious brain activity and it takes a few to catch up. It happened to me once, I felt like a large pressure on top of my chest and all i could see was bright white light, i thought i died or something, then i could see the room i was sleeping in, and then i was able to move and it was over

sleep paralysis
Yup. I had never really heard about it until one of my friends told me about an experience he had with it. Shortly after that I had an experience where I was somewhat awake but I couldn't move. At the time I sort of tripped out not necessarily because I couldn't move but because for whatever reason I thought there was someone in my room. Like Havok said I think it had to do with being caught between being awake and asleep. They say pretty much every time you sleep you dream but you don't always remember it. From my experience I think I was slowly waking up but had some kind of dream that I wasn't quite done with.

I used to get a lot of recurring episodes of these. Haven't gotten one in several months. I found that realizing your in one, remaining calm, and just waiting a little to regain control worked. It will definetely freak you the fuck out though.

ya used to happen to me a lot too, I'd be trying so hard to move but couldn't really fully wake up. A lot of times I'd just completely fall back asleep, maybe it still happens and i don't even remember it who knows.
On a related note I've been trying to train myself to be in more control of my dreams, cuz thats just fun. A few times now I've conciously been able to do whatever I wanted including flying around, walking through walls, and gettin freaky with strangers. One thing that I've found helps is I can usually control it more if I'm just kinda leisurely napping and not in a real deep sleep, then if I do wake up I can think about it and nod off to try again.

This is fairly common. Happens to me about once a month. Involuntarily. From sleep to waking.
Once, my stepfather challenged me to do it on a car ride to Baltimore. I pulled it off. I let my body fall asleep while I remained conscious. It put me into sleep paralysis. It can be done voluntarily as well. Waking to sleep.

I get sleep paralysis all the time. It's generally not enjoyable though, because it sucks not being able to move. Plus a common episode for me is a sharp shrieking noise during paralysis that just gets louder and louder, its really annoying. I need to start having lucid dreams again.

used to have it a lot when i was younger, had a couple of those "freaky" episodes where you're still dreaming, so i was seeing shit that only 16 hits of bad acid or a 12 year old imagination could come up with.

how do you control your dreams?
It's called Lucid Dreaming. i've never really attempted it do it from any of the recommended techniques, but I can say it's happened to me once or twice that i can remember. i'm sure wikipedia could tell you more about some ways that people try to achieve lucid dreaming. one of them that i can remember reading about is where every day you (for instance) draw a dot on the back of your hand, and throughout the day you make a conscious effort to glance at the dot every 20 minutes or so. supposedly if you do this, when you are dreaming you will look at your hand, realize you are not awake, and be able to control your dreams. weird shit.

Ive had those dreams that you can control before on accident. However, it only happens when I have been woken up usually, and I hit the snooze button on my alarm clock and im in a half sleep half awake state. Its really cool though, I usually have sex dreams during those times.

interesting thread
ive suffered sleep paralysis twice but never knew it until this thread. Very shitty feeling, the first time it happened i was living in my apt and when i woke up I thought someone was pinning me down to the bed by my neck. I was awake but couldnt move and couldnt really see the room around me. not fun
also as someone else in this thread mentioned, whats the deal with the circles you see in your eyes sometimes? I get that often and i swear im seeing little cells

the only cool thing i can do while sleeping is wake up on command
edit: i tend to revisit a lot of my old dreams. like, most of the dreams i have are just going back to old dreams, continuing them. some are from years ago that i cant even remember in a conscious state (i can only recall them through the dream state).
i also always dream about trying to punch someone or something, but i cant move my arm fast at all. i try hard in the dream, but its just a slowmotion punch. i often dream about losing some of my teeth, too.
apparently my sister gets some of the same stuff.
