Do "bottomless" lakes truly exist? Or is this just another one of those great urban legends?

deepest lake in the world is around 800 ft iirc, in mongolia somewhere

edit: nevermind, The deepest lake in the world is Lake Baikal in Siberia, Russia. It is a natural lake that is 5,712 feet (1,741 meters) deep. That's more than one mile straight down!

I don't believe in bottomless lakes, but my wife seems to think that because some park says its the "Home of the bottomless lake" means they do. Its reasons like this that make me want to lead a Bobby Brown-style life.

theres no bottumless lake, but there is a bottomless pit, you jump down and you enter another dimension where you can talk to jesus, and there are all sorts of foods falling with you so you wont ever get hungry because god knows you wont ever die from falling.

Theres an inherent flaw with your question because even if there was a bottomless lake, we would never know. I mean at what point would people stop looking for the bottom and just go "YEP! THAT BITCH IS BOTTOMLESS"

Also, the earth is round. Think about it.

In the Bizarro world, a cube-shaped planet known as "Htrae" ("Earth" spelled backwards), society is ruled by the Bizarro Code, which states "Us do opposite of all Earthly things! Us hate beauty! Us love ugliness!

I do believe the deepest lake in the US is Crater Lake?

I was there a couple of years ago... pretty stunning. Read somewhere that it was almost 2,000 ft deep or something.

if the lake is bottomless, how does the water stay there?

If you mean the mantle of the Earth evaporating the water leaving simply a pit, then you're right. If you mean the water would fall out the other side of the Earth then I'm baffled.

if the lake is bottomless, how does the water stay there?

ignoring all the heat in the earths core, a truely bottomless lake would mean there not being a bottom, and the water from the lake would all be concentrated at the center of the earth. due to gravity.

wads you being asian does not entitle you to answer every rhetoric question with a mathematic or scientific answer.

What is the definition of a lake? At what size does a body of water become a small ocean or sea? (ie. Red, Caspian Sea)

I live near monteray bay, a protected section of the Pacific Ocean, that has a crater in it twice the size of the grand canyon, but since its underwater it is not counted as the greatest canyon, I believe its over 2 miles deep.
