hey, i know there was a monitor thread already but i couldn't find any that i liked. my xmas present was that my parents would pay half for a monitor, and mines becoming outdated.

anyway, i guess what i'm looking for is just anything good quality, maybe post some monitors that you guys bought and are happy with? i wanted something wide screen, but i was told it wouldn't work on most games or something like that (can someone confirm that :x). in any case, if most games do support widescreen, i'd definitely prefer it. i was also hoping for something that would get me ~100fps if vsync was turned on, so i guess a quick refresh rate.

i really dont know where to start so it doesnt even matter, just please post anything, heh. thank you so much :D

Samsung 931C is where it's at. LCD, 2 ms response time, 2000:1 contrast ratio, best color of any monitor.

if you want 100 fps with vsync on you will be buying a CRT monitor.

oh i didnt specify that i want an lcd monitor (but thats beside the point).

anyway, it doesnt necessarily have to be a crt monitor for 100fps w/ vsync on. most lcd's are set at 60/75, and can go up to 100 with a refresh rate lock program (resolution depending, of course). i'm looking for one that can at least do this. it'd be perfect if it was the default setting so i wouldn't feel bad about working my monitor too hard. i mean, the default of the lcd monitor on my laptop is 100 hz :\...

meh. personally I game at 60fps (using DVI with Vsync on) and it is smooth as silk running at 1920x1200. But to each their own...

I could have gotten confused with determinig VGA/DVI. With DVI, unless things have changed, refresh rates are generally locked at 60hz (which is perfectly fine for an LCD, but not a CRT). With a D-Sub/VGA connection it will be able to scale higher.

i just got the sceptre 22inch widescreen monitor off of newegg. its pretty damn nice, and the price is good. I believe its on there for 360~ right now. i dont feel like getting a link, but this thing has all the inputs you would ever want, including HDMI, which im running through my PC with a DVI to HDMI cable. the native resolution is 1680x1050. and steam has widescreen built in,

I'm leaving in about 5 minutes to go pick up the Samsung 225BW actually.

It's $400 (on sale at futureshop), 5ms response time, 22" widescreen (most games support widescreen, if not all), 700: 1 contrast ratio (whenever you see numbers like 2000: 1.. thats not true, it ends up being 700 - 800:1... could be gray scale or whatever that shit is).

You really can't say that because you're comparing SCEPTRE and Samsung (whats sceptre by the way..).

Example: I bought 2 different kinds of TV's, one was Advent, forgot what the other name was (kind of no names). They both died within 4-5 months, I replaced the Advent one for another and it died in 1 month. I got my money back and bought a Samsung, its still working great and its about 4 years old (same could be said with other well-known and trusted companies).

Anyways, I could be wrong about Sceptre, but I tend to not buy from companies I've never heard of. And there is a reason why they're so much cheaper.
