I'm going to a community college right now due to fucking up with college deadlines that I was accepted to. Anyways...I'm going to major in engineering (leaning towards electrical engineering) and I'm taking my first actual engineering course this semester (intro to engineering aka EGR 120). I've already taken chemistry 111 (general chemistry 1) and now I'm trying to figure out what science class I should take this semester, either Physics 211 (General Physics 1) or Chemistry 112 (general chemistry 2). Chemistry 112 seems to fit more neatly into my schedule, but I don't know if waiting to take Physics 211 will fuck up my course selection for next year. Next year I'm planning on transferring to a 4 year college, so I don't really know the engineering course choices nor the prerequisites for them. So does it matter what class I take this semester, and if so which one is more important to take this semester rather than next year? Any help is much appreciated.

I would try and get a course description handbook from the university your trying to go to (4yr one) to check for pre-reqs and ask ur academic advisor to see if PHY211 or wutever can even be transferred to the uni you want. (chances are you can but sometimes they won't)
Besides that I have no knowledge in the field of engineering or science so this advice is just from a regular uni student.

If you were transferring to my school, you would want to take the Physics courses. Unless you are going into chemical engineering, engineer majors only take general chemistry here. Physics 1 (mechanics), Physics II(electricity/waves), and Physics III(optics/relativity/nuclear) are all needed at most schools as well. Even if they don't transfer, it would be nice to have that head start on most people in your university classes.

Look at the 4 year Universities you plan to apply to and check out what the pre-reqs are for the different engineering programs. Maybe even call them up and see if your courses will transfer. Although it's great for your GPA to retake courses, college is expensive so plan your community college courses to get the most out of it.

Definitely look at the schools requirements. I know that EE's at my school dont necessarily have to take gen chem 2, they can opt to take materials science instead, which is a much easier course. However, if the school you want to go to requires you to have gen chem 2, then I would recommend taking it now since you just got done with gen chem 1. However, you cant go wrong with taking physics because it will probably defiantly be needed.

One piece of advice however, my school, and others that I know of, require that you take physics for engineers instead of the other physics courses. My school wont transfer a regular physics class, only the engineering physics one. You need to make sure that your school of choice doesnt do this as well.

Arod speaks the truth. Same goes for here.

Calc I
General Physics I
Chemistry For Engineers (CHEM135)
Into to Engi (ES100)
English 101

that was my first semester at CC, transfered to maryland after the first two semesters now doing EE (was double ME/EE) as a junior

edit: if you do plan to transfer to umd and you do 2 semesters at cc you will get auto accepted to the engineering program if you pass requirements at http://www.eng.umd.edu/prospective/psug_transfer.html (hard to tranfer into straight from hs because of limited enrollment)
