so let me ask about how this works. is there a software that comes with it? do you choose different palates that simulate different mediums and stuff? hows the color choice work, what kind of options for line thickness and variety is there? this is interesting and idk anything about tablets, but heard they were a solid investment.
interesting drawing btw

I'm fairly clueless about tablets as well, but I think they're just used with Photoshop, Painter, etc. So the line thickness and variety would depend on the defaults of whatever application you're using and whatever custom brushes you may have. They're all pressure sensitive for line intensity, though some are more sensitive than others. I think mac has the intuos which has a shitload of sensitivity levels.
By the way, mac, I looked for your work in the MIAD site's student area and didn't see anything.

mac's work is too controversial and avant garde for the public. they cannot handle transvestites being crucified.

Yeah, because Andres Serrano's Piss Christ was so much classier.

I've seen some decent work come from a tablet and Photoshop, but it can't really touch what the guys using Painter put out.

recon: it comes with some programs, but all you really need is photoshop. thats what i use to draw in. and as far as thickness of line, you just change the thickness of the paintbrush tool in ps (there is a button on the pen that allows you to change the thickness real easily). and as polarity said, the tablet is really pressure sensitive. i left the sensitivity at default, and it works just fine. the harder you press, the thicker and darker the line is.
polarity: i had no idea that miad even had online student galleries. and im not sure how you get stuff on there. i'll look into that though.
senor: i tried painting a little in coral painter (you get "painter essentials 3" with the tablet), and i kind of sucked at it. i'm not that great of a painter to begin with too. i hear that a lot of successful illustrators use both photoshop and painter to make real nice stuff. but for now i'll just stick with photoshop :(

painter is a huge pain in the ass to learn as well, and it doesn't have a lot of features that you'd expect from something like photoshop. Probably a combination is best.
