I have been seriouisly thinking about getting a tattoo but I dont want one that I wont like a year later, so I have decided that I am going to put it on my mirror and everytime I brush my teeth or anything ill see it, and if I dont get sick of looking at it after a year or so I will go get one. Any suggestions or tips on tattoo design in general?

best thing is to draw something yourself

Unless of course you can't draw, like me. :(

Think I may have my daughter do something for me..

Whether you can draw or not isn't really an issue. Come up with an idea and a basic sketch, then prowl the local shops for an artist you respond to. Get to know that artist, take a look at samples of his designs/past work, then present your idea and rudimentary drawing to him (or her). They'll generally be able to cooperate with you to come up with something that fleshes out what you originally wanted and make it a complete, worthwhile design.

Actually, I was commenting on this ^^^ but what you said was good pol. :)

I have been thinking for well over a year about getting a braclet with both my kids initials in it. This is real hard to draw on a mirror and the fact that this is serious "social skin". Being that I am a manager is also a major factor too. I used to work with a girl whose husband does real good work, he did a few people we worked with and I may talk to him and tell him what I want, my fears and my hopes in a tattoo..

tell the artist what you want, tell him to come up with some sketches and you'll come back when they're done and check em out, then you can go from there

wow, I am amazing someone actually said this. I went to like 5 different artists for my first tattoo and even sat down with three of them for like over an hour.
People have different styles, different things they like to do. It's best to find someone who understands where you're coming from.

EDIT: You still stole my idea bitch Grover. ;)

Not to derail your thread, but i dont think two tattoo threads should be started, too much manliness. Anyway, ive been thinkin about gettin a tattoo for my girl friend that was killed 2 years ago Monday, and i already have designed it, its very small. One problem. I want to see it everyday, yet be able to go to work and still look professional. Where can i put it?

Do you wear long, or short sleves at work?

Fore-arm?

My mom died in December (She was 53 and no one saw it coming) I've was talking with her about getting a tattoo of a painting that she bought since she bought it (this was before I was 18 ... or like at least 3 years ago). Now I'm getting that tattoo on March 3rd.

I was originally just going to get the sacred heart from the painting, but when she died I decided to get the whole center piece of it.

Here's the painting:

and here's the sketch that the tattoo artist come up with:

I can't wait, I'm excited as fuck...

I would hate to seem insensitive cruel or something else terrible, maybe its just that that has never happened to me, but getting a tattoo of your late gf might be awkwerd around other people. But that may just be me. Also, cool painting/ tat dude.

What's the design?

its a cross with her initials and date etched kind of sitting on the cross. Nothing too fancy, and its only about 2 inches tall and 2 inches thick

edit: And i was thinking the forearm, but I not out of school yet, so i am not sure whether i will wear long or short sleeves...

On your left pectoral muscle. Then you won't have to worry about sleeves.
