My mother-in-law owns a wii and got this game today. The flipping from 2d-3d is pretty cool. And, you don't have to do stupid remote movements.

I dont have a wii, but I was kinda keeping up with this game till it finally got dropped from gamecube (Which is still think is dumb as hell, but GC is officially dead).
Anywho, I didnt understand what the hell kinda game this was for a while. At first they said it was going to be a straight platformer, just with Paper Mario, then they said it was an RPG.
Then they kept saying it was both.
I was like "How the fuck?"
___
So I broke down and committed a "Dogy sin" of watching a preview (I HATE watching previews of games that i really want and will get sooner or later).
But after watching it, im even more confused than ever, lol.
It's exactly what they say it is, and I dont see how it works.
Like, you still have HP and FP (read MP) and all that other stuff, it's just...... not turn based. lol
___
It' looks interesting as hell, though. My friend got it yesterday, and I'ma force him to play it for me today so I can see what it's like and give a better opinion about it.

i picked it up from best buy. I bought it because they removed the turn based RPG aspects of the game. You still have the stats like HP, Attack , XP but all combat is real time. Also, the flipping is a very cool addition to a mario platformer. I did not like Mario RPG or Ten Thousand Year door but I am on the chapter 1 Boss and i think i am going to really like this game.

I made my friend sit down and play some of this for me and I got mixed opinions about it, lol.
On one end, it is kool how the game is 2D/3D. That's a pretty kool concept, and with the way the last 2 paper marios have been, im pretty sure that'll get crazy later on.
On the other end, I'm kinda still mixed about how this game actually plays. I only saw my friend playing through part of the first chapter, and from what I've seen, they pretty much could have left the "rpg" aspect out. At first glance, AND ONLY AT FIRST GLANCE, it looks like HP is just an excuse for people who walk into the first goomba, lol.
But who knows, I cant really judge this game cause well. . . i havent seen enough to give it an honest critique.
I will say I still wish this woulda came out on gamecube like originally planned, cause i'da picked it up so quick.
Both the paper mario games rocked hard. ZOMGS 8 DAMAGE!! HACKS!!!

Dogy, from what I've played, which is a few hours, the RPG element more comes in when you start to accumulate other Pixls, it's sort of as though you are character building. Another purpose for the HP is to be able to run through the 3D stages longer, to complete some of the more advanced puzzles, I assume.
Either way, this game is absolutely kick ass and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Yeah, I played some more last night and I'm really liking it. The bomb pixl is my favorite although the turn skinny one is pretty cool as well. I love the flipping, it's my favorite part - first thing I do when I come through a new door is flip to be able to view further to "the right" and see what's coming.
The game's really easy so far though. I'm just past the part where you get/earn rubees for Mimi and it's been really easy. The only part I've been stumped at was FrackTail - I couldn't figure out what to do so I searched the net and saw a video of what to do, heh.
Also, getting the star that makes you huge-normous is so fucking awesome. I want a cheat code to play like that always; it's so badass.
Love the flipping (2d/3d) and love the pixl's. Could care less about the character switching (although I only have Peach in my party and I have needed her for certain floating jump tasks), collecting cards, and all the RPG type elements (leveling up, getting items [I've never used one on my own (a story element makes you use one)]). And, ultimately I love that I don't have to do crazy ass wii remote gestures/movements for normal play (other games like sonic just get annoying from this - Excite Truck & wii sports have been the only games the movement's been GOOD in).

I finally got my Wii so I'm a little over half way through Super Paper Mario atm and it's a fun game but, I'm finding myself getting bored with it because everything feels REALLY redundant.

Do the flipside & flopside pit of 100 trials - those'll keep you busy for a while (especially the flopside one... if you want to beat it...)

I beat the game, I don't really have a desire to do the extras. It was worth the price of admission.

Yeah.
Last part was annoying as fuck though... always jumping on shit does get boring.
Did you get picolo, barry, or dashel? (pixls) It's okay, picolo & barry both sucked anyway. Boomer's the only good one.

Yea, the game was pretty much all boomer. I didn't get any of those pixls.

Spoiler?
Dashel was the only worthwhile one (beat Flipside pit of 100 trials). Barry is easy to get (just go back to the first bitland world - he's in one of the bushes at the start [provided you've already beaten Francis...]). Piccolo requires talking to a bitch on flopside who sends you to flipside who sends you to 1-1 who sends you to 1-2 who sends you to 1-4 and then you go in reverse order to bring everyone back the shit they want. Then you get a key to a locked door on flopside. Piccolo's only worthwhile if you want 2 cards as you have to use it to break 2 rocks (same spot on flipside & flopside).
And, if you want Tippi back you can take Francis 999 coins for a robotic version that does the same thing. Just do a couple sets of 10 rooms in the flopside pit of 100 trials if you need coins quick.
Spoiler?
