Ok so I already have an XBOX 360 but, I'm seeking out another system to have a wider base of games to play because sometimes the 360 goes through dry periods as far as releasing newer fresher titles to the public just like every other system. I'm into mainly Sport sim games, RPGs, racing and some action games. I'm not too huge on shooters on the console so yeah ... Anyway the question is to get a Nintendo Wii or a Sony PS3. Which would be better and why ? Any input would be greatly appreciated :).

These are 2 vastly different consoles. It's really up to what games you want to play that is presently out or coming out within the next few months. Keep in mind a lot of games on the PS3 are already on the 360. The types of games on the Wii are totally different from ps3 and/or x360, so I would go for the Wii instead because of that. Get something fresh. I'm getting one soon myself (already have a 360).

You have to look at how much you want to spend. Right now the 20GB PS3 versions should still be on the shelves, but they stopped production on it. You would probably get the 60GB version anyways if you got one. So the price difference is about ~$300.

What you really need to do is make sure to look at the games that are on each system and see which one you prefer.

In addition, Blue Dragon is coming in August, Lost Odyssey during the Holidays, and Eternal Sonata hopefully for a summer release. Three huge RPGs for the 360, look into it.

That's what I've been doing for about 2 weeks already five star. I love the idea that the Wii has Zelda: Twilight Princess. Super Paper Mario looks pretty sick too from watching the review at IGN.com and Sonic: The Secret Rings looks pretty entertaining as well. If I got the Wii I don't think I'd be playing many Sports Sims on it due to the fact the 360 has a better set-up for them IMO.

Well, that would be the reason for having a 360 and the Wii. Not sure if I read that right, but you want more sports game. Thing is you really won't find any exclusive sports games on any system. The Wii does have Wii Sports though. Same with the ps3. I'm pretty sure every sports game on the 360 is on the PS3, vice versa.

From the genre of games you listed, the 360 is really the best out there with those assortment of games at the moment. To me, I think it's pointless to waste money for another system to get a game that is already on the 360 which you have. Unless you have that kinda money to spare, go for it.

You read that correctly. Basically I'm leaning towards the Wii at the moment because I use my 360 for xbox exclusive 360 games such as Gears of War and Lost Planet as well as my sports sims such as Madden, NHL, 2K7 ect. I still want a wide base of games and I'm thinking the Wii has more than the PS3 and will continue to do so over the next 6 months or so ?

In terms of a wider base of games, the Wii has more to offer. I'm pretty sure the games that will come out for the PS3 in the distant future will also come out on the 360, except for their exclusives which won't be due out till next year. That's a long ways from now (more than 6+ months).

edit:

Here is the thread I made back then on if I should get a Wii. There is a lot of good input. I would check it out. As you see, I finally decide to get it.

Hmm ok. Thanks for your help you made my decision a bit easier. If I may ask what games are you going to play on the Wii and what do you play on the 360 as it is ?

Hmm ok. Thanks for your help you made my decision a bit easier. If I may ask what games are you going to play on the Wii and what do you play on the 360 as it is ?

I'm going to try out everything on the Wii: Zelda, Paper Mario, SSX Blur, Wii Sports, Mario Party 8 (it comes out next month), etc.

I haven't been able to play my 360 much lately. But reason for that because life keeps me busy. I have finals coming up now with 2 weeks left of classes, it's tough lol. I'm actually about to go study again after this post. I'll help you again later tonight.

For the 360, I have been playing: Rainbox Six Vegas, NBA 2K7, Gears of War, Marvel Ultimate Alliance (again when the new characters and stuff are released on Xbox Live), Top Spin 2 (I've been playing tennis a lot in RL, so it makes the game more fun to play).

sonic for wii sucks.

anything that relies on using the controller for more than a controller pretty much sucks (unless its wii sports or excite truck).

like sonic - you tilt left/right to steer and when attacking you do this push movement thing that sometimes works and sometimes doesnt. you'll play the game about 7 minutes after finally getting past the tutorial levels where you just want to kill yourself.

or like farcry - god your arm gets tired as shit trying to hold the wii mote and nun chuk - plus aiming drives you crazy (if you could totally rebind buttons and change how the aiming works to something good it'd be awesome). like, you'd think it'd be awesome to be able to point and shoot but its not nearly as good as a mouse. the slightest arm movement makes you start looking all over the place. if you could flip it so that A unlocks movement (instead of locking it) it'd be pretty good, but you can't. so you suffer through staring at random things trying to control the view and thank god you can kill enemies from a distance.

exice truck, wii sports, and super paper mario have been fantastic on the wii. actually, wii sports bowling is the only good thing - golf, tennis, and baseball are all shitty (especially trying to putt...)

Seriously speaking get a PS3.

LAIR
Heavenly Sword
Motorstorm
RFOM
Ratchet and CLank : Tools of Destruction
Warhawk Online
Killzone 2
Socom 4
The Getaway
Metal Gear Solid 4
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Uncharted : Drakes Fortune

And even games like DMC4 and Dark Sector and RE5 you may want to buy on PS3 for better visual experience

It will also give you a chance to try out some next gen games on PS3 rather then the 360. The online store is growing, Home will be out in October.

Wii is good if you have a lot of friends who come over or big family.....I seen lots of people get bored fast of them...

Also PS3 is a nice BluRay Player...I love the sd and produo slots to transfer music and watch movies on PS3 from torrents I dl

You already have proof that it will look better on the PS3 than the 360? Or you just decided to make that up? Let's not give future buyers the wrong impression.

He is asking our opinion, and from looking at the demos being played in Japan for DMC and screenshots it is MY OPINION that the majority of the multi platform games will look better on the PS3....If he got an Elite which still wouldn't show true 1080P if anything then it might come close....

Let it go dude...

Well since you're buying a system NOW, you'll probably want games that are actually playable, or will soon be. My suggestions for the Wii, which is the obvious choice here:

Good:
Super Paper Mario
Zelda
Wii Sports
Tiger Woods (trueswing rules)
Excite Truck
Mario Party 8 (coming soon)
SSX Blur
VC Titles: Starfox 64, Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Zelda: LttP, etc

Average:
Elebits
Wii Play (for 10 bucks... it's still average)
Warioware: Smooth Moves
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (most mini-games suck)

Bad:
Sonic & the Secret Rings (I can't play this game without wanting to kill myself almost immediately)
Call of Duty 3
Farcry
All others, for the most part. Stupid movie games and whatnot.

I haven't played Godfather: Blackhand, but I hear it's pretty good.

Great upcoming exclusives:
Smash Bros Brawl
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
Metroid
Mario Galaxy
NiGHTs

If you're getting your shooting/sports from 360, which you should, I would get Wii for the platforming and party games, as well as the occassional racer.

Yeah, all the first person shooters for Wii suck when that should be its strongest thing. You have to keep the remote exactly centered or else you start spinning in all different directions, I don't get why they cant just have the Turok setup. You walk with buttons and look around with the joystick, then you point and shoot with the remote.

Damn I'm glad you guys gave me decent feedback on Sonic: Secret Rings, I hadn't seen a review yet. I'm most likely getting a Wii anyway just because of the VC titles such as mario 64, starfox and mario kart 64 and the other exclusive titles like zelda, paper mario and metroid which is coming out :)

SSX Blur
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Super Paper Mario
Excite Truck
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2
Wii Sports

I'm looking forward to getting it.

Awesome. Lemme know how this plays out. The Gamestop out here wont pre-order a Nintendo Wii because they're still in such high demand so it's really hit or miss right now :(

So far I've tried ... Gamestop / EB Games, Wal Mart, K-mart (they were advertising them), Sam's Club (they ran out today again ...) Hastings yet none of them have Wii's. I fucking hate where I live because I don't want to drive to Las Vegas for a Wii.

Not sure if they keep up to date, but I read a few stores online started selling them again. Stocks might be coming back.

Target would be your best bet as they do not get shipments from like UPS. Their systems come in on the truck so if you call at 8am and they dont have it, then they arent getting it that day.

You walk with buttons and look around with the joystick, then you point and shoot with the remote.first person shooters are way better on a very large tv. it's easier to just hit the edge of the screen without going off it and causing those spins.

unfortunately having watched an RE: UC gameplay video i know that even newer games will suffer the same problems.

It's really going to be up to Nintendo, with Metroid, to come up with some sort of revolutionary gameplay for FPS, or else the console won't reach it's full potential.

The remote charger could be cool. I know the battery monitor sucks dick. For like 5 days it'll show your shit @ 100% then all of a sudden you're at 1 bar battery power.

Also, wii isn't HD so buying the colorstream cable set isn't going to do anything extra for you. Just stay with the component cables (red / white / yellow).

Actually my Wii comes in today ^_^. It should be here when I get back from class. I'll have an hour to play before I watch the NBA playoffs.

I did a lot of research on component cables and I found that it's worth it if you have a HDTV. Even though the Wii doesn't output in HD, the 480p is quite a noticable change from the normal. On Gamespot, they did scrollover pictures and you can easily tell the difference in color and smoothness. Several people I've talked to and reviews I've read said that it looks a lot better. PenguinUnited sells a good 24k gold plated set for a really good price, so I bought it along with the charger.
