So far there's been some pretty good first impressions given, but that's really all there is to go on right now. I'm optimistic, but I'm well aware that the new album has the potential to be garbage.

Track list:

#1 - Doomsday Clock [3:41]
#2 - 7 Shades Of Black [3:15]
#3 - Orchid [3:58]
#4 - That's The Way [3:44] (Believed to be first single)
#5 - Tarantula [3:47]
#6 - Starz [3:41]
#7 - United States [9:50]
#8 - Never Lost [4:13]
#9 - Bring The Light [3:35]
#10 - Come On (Let's Go) [3:15]
#11 - For God And Country [4:51]
#12 - Pomp And Circumstance [4:18]

I'm not sure what to think of the seemingly political theme. It's uncharted territory for Corgan, so it's hard to guess how it will turn out. Gotta give the guy respect for constantly trying something different. If he was truly in this for the money, he'd just be doing a greatest hits tour.

My prediction: Four great songs, five decent ones, three forgettables, making it an over-all solid record and a succesful return.

PS - Zwan - Mary Star of the Sea = garbage.
The Zwan material that was never recorded = hella solid.

EDIT: This shit is so close to leaking. There's been so much inside information floating around in the last week or so; I give it three weeks, tops.

its only half the band, i have my doubts. i agree with the post saying corgan is an ass but a talented one...

i don't think him with a bunch of new tour bitch replacements for the original lineup will do the Smashing Pumpkins' name justice.

all that really matters imo that chamberlin is there. some really thought iha mattered, i fall into the camp that thinks not. jc is one of the best drummers in rock history in my uneducated opinion.

I don't think theres a single person out there that doesn't want Iha to be back with the Pumpkins, but it's probably for the best. James has his own little thing (extremely little) going on now, and it's clear his heart just isn't in it anymore. If he isn't going to be devoted, I'd rather see him replaced than have him half-ass it. The Pumpkins have always been about evolution, so just think of this as the next step.

James made his share of contributions over the years and he will definetely be missed, but there shouldn't be any questions over whether or not Corgan and Chamberlin are capable of writing amazing material by themselves. As I said before, as bad as Mary Star of the Sea was, there is a lot of Zwan material out there in the form of bootlegs and b-sides that are just flat-out awesome.

Is there any word on Auf Der Mar returning? Id rather her for the meantime than any newbie instead. Atleast she has SOME experience. I remember an interview where she said shed be completely up for it if they asked her.

So far its looking like its just Corgan+Chamberlin project #192040564.

It's more than likely that she won't be the bassist, at least for this first new album. Corgan and Chamberlin have a lot to prove and they're going to have absolute artistic control on the new record. The two new members are probably going to be faceless touring musicians.

I think Billy and Jimmy have too much respect for MADM to put her in such a restrictive role. Perhaps someday down the road she'll be back if and when they start looking for more creative input, but that's a big if.

Thats lame :(. I have a feeling this will just turn out to be a one album deal and they'll fade off again like their other projects. LETS HOPE IM WRONG, though!

Yeah. Machina had potential but was over-produced to shit. It's free counter-part Machina II was pretty decent, though. Had the best from the two albums been combined, it would have made a more than respectable "final" album. I'm not a big fan of the Adore album either, but the song's live interpretations were incredible.

As I said previously, despite the crappy albums Corgan has put out over the past 10 years or so, he has still shown the ability to write exceptional music; it's just that for whatever reason, his good material never makes his albums. It's frustrating as a fan to see the guy struggle with bad reviews and shitty sales due to poor business decisions, not poor music.
