The songs that I've heard on the radio are just awful. But then again, I've never liked Linkin Park.

Shadow of the day sounds awfully like with our without you - U2.
i'm amazed at how much more angst they've mixed into their songs. i mean they were always angsty, but this is out of control. its as if they're trying as hard as they can to only market towards 12 year old sad outcasted children in upper middle class suburbia.

This sounds to me like they outgrew their previous releases and style, but were too afraid to change it, or were forced to keep it the same.

I was listening to the radio broadcast of their release party on the way home, and they were playing some songs. They played "Given Up" and the first thing I thought of was "Getting Away with Murder" by Papa Roach. I soon found myself bobbing my head to the song, and then as soon as Chester started screaming "PUT ME OUT OF MY MISERY" I started laughing. I'm not sure if I like this or not yet.

sigh each song is so different from the next, thats bothersome as their other albums flowed so well.
as it has been stated, definitely disappointing.

I had high expectations and was definitely disappointed. It is still a decent CD but it's not near their best.

Whats funny is the tracks go from emo rock, to soft shit, to rap, to church music. Its completely random. Almost every one I have talked to disliked the album and I can see why. Its nothing like Linkin Park at all.
With that being said, Ill say that I don't think its that bad. It is very different but some of the tracks are decent in my opinion.

x2. I couldn't stand to listen to any of these songs again other than track 3 (Leave Out All the Rest).
Terrible album.

I had the chance to hear this before most of ya'll i believe, and i've listened to it a few times. To me it sounds like they wanted to go in a different direction but didn't feel like fighting for all the tracks with their label. So they made a "compromise" and did some "new" sounding tracks.
The album is ok. Its a well known fact that chester benington didnt' want to do this album at all, and by the sound of it the rest of the band wasn't overly interested in it either.
Theres about 3-4 tracks thats worth listening to. The rest are filler at best. The album had no flow, no direction, it really sounded like b-sides and rarities more than a "new" album.
Mike Shinoda would be better suited sticking with Fort Minor and Chester benington would be better served just joining another band.
Tracks I thought were decent: Bleed it out, given up, and in between.

Did I mention that the clapping in 33% of the songs is incredibly annoying?

I don't know why they went with claps. A clock tick would have been less...bashy?...sounding and would have also went with the theme of the album.
After listening to it more, I like it for the most part. There's some good songs and some bad ones, as opposed to their previous albums where every track was either great or good. But overall, if you listen to it a few times you'll probably warm up to it.

Last comment for this thread, I swear. I went to listen to Meteora roughly 15 minutes ago, and it just didn't seem the same. I fear I have permanently lost respect for Linkin Park :(

this is an easy shot, so I apologize in advance, but the fact that you had any respect for a corperate rock group is :(

I knew someone was going to say that as soon as I posted it, but honestly I really enjoyed and still enjoy Hybrid Theory. This new CD has hurt it.

How are any of you surprised that this album sucks an industrial-sized vat full of balls? Although I am digging Chester's faggoty hair-do. That shit's just phenomenal.
