In order
1. Ion Dissonance - Breathing is Irrelevant
2. Anatomy of a Ghost - Evanesce
3. Ion Dissonance - Solace
4. Into the Moat - The Design
5. Direwolf - Beyond the lands of human existence
or maybe subsititute direwolf with psyopus - ideas of reference or every time i die - last night in town
Although the design and solace were made within the last 3-5 years both overly impressed me and shoved their way into my top 5. Direwolf's release this year was amazing so I felt it deserved the last spot on my list. BII by ID and AOAG's release evanesce are still both my favorite releases since 8th grade/freshman year of high school which I still listen to today.

If Greatest Hits Count:
Rush - Chronicles
Iron Maiden - The Essential Iron Maiden
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Pink Floyd - All the Best Bricks
Tool - Lateralus or Aenima depending on my mood
If Greatest hits don't count, then 2112 instead of Chronicles and Number of the Beast instead of Essential and The Wall instead of Bricks

Awesome, I'm surprised anyone else here has heard that album. How'd you find out about it? Their other album, File Under: Easy Listening is pretty great too (though I prefer Copper Blue, obviously). And then you should probably check out Bob Mould's previous band, Husker Du, if you haven't already.

The best part is that it caused a riot the first time it was performed. Mostly because of the dancing (it was a ballet), but still. Imagine how absurd a piece of music today would have to be to cause something like that? Truly revolutionary stuff.

I don't hold with putting greatest hits collections on "greatest album" lists. An album is a group of songs that are done within a short period of time and meant to be together.
Joni Mitchell - Blue
The Clash - London Calling
Jane's Addiction - Ritual de lo Habitual
Rage Against The Machine
Radiohead - OK Computer
I admit I haven't listened to enough albums over the last 7-10 years to really know if any belong on the list.

There is no way NO WAY that an album named this could ever be top 5 anything except maybe Top 5 Gayest Album Titles Ever.
If, like me, you subscribe to the Beavis & Butthead Eye Test Theory ("This band sucks." "How do you know they suck?" "Just look at 'em!"), this album title gets a Z-. There's no way it could be any good. I refuse to believe it. Only faggot posers name their album something this stupid.
Edit: oh and to elaborate on the greatest hits albums thing, if you include them in discussions of Greatest Album Ever, then you're really not talking about the greatest album ever, you're talking about what band had the greatest career ever.
Lots of bands release 10-20 records in a career and have a couple of good songs off of each one, if you put all the good ones on one collection then wa la you got a "great album." It's much more impressive to release one album with ALL good songs, that you wrote and recorded all in a few months or a year, and that all fit together and make up a great singular musical achievement. That kind of album is 10x better than the best greatest hits collection.

Pantera is like Metallica though....you have had to have gotten into them at least once in you're metal-life, so its only inevitable that you have somewhat of an attachment to them. With that being said, The Great Southern Trendkill would've been a better choice IMO. Then again I would probably put Superjoint Ritual's Use Once And Destroy over anything Pantera. You can't hate on Dime Bag no matter how overrated you think he was. I mean shit, the guy would drink himself into obliteration and still be able to shred, somewhat.
Honestly, its much better than whoever mentioned Job For A Cowboy - DOOM. That was the biggest LOL of my life to date. Too bad my bands wern't as generic and boring as them otherwise I'd be in a big myspace faggot band too. But then he mentioned BTBAM's Alaska which is completely opposite of generic and boring so I can't take his top 5 seriously. :p

yea pantera is sort of like metallica in that way, even though metallica is much better, but i can see the comparison. i've only ever liked cowboys from hell to the point where i can listen to it all at once, i mean if i want to listen to pantera i'll just listen to the song verbal razors by exodus.

Minor Threat: Discography
Buzzcocks: Singles Going Steady
Goldie: Timeless
Sex Pistols: Never Mind the Bollocks
I had to edit out something that I loved but I'd have been remiss if I didn't acknowledge the first full exposure to Drum and Bass that I got. Drum and bass hit the US a bit later than it did overseas and I'm still as into it as I ever was so not tossing something in there would have been a big omission. While Timeless wasn't the first thing I heard, I'd venture to say it got a whole lot of people into the genre.

Well, a band you could recommend to anyone sounds like a good band to me. I only brought it up because I really can't stand NIN, but love Red Sparowes. So you don't have to like NIN or Tool to enjoy them.
