good stuff, and I noticed the scout had a double jump over the water, seems pretty cool and hopefully will help out the fact that he has no concs.

Great vid, TF2 is starting to look good. I've always been a skeptic but I might have to go buy it.
Not sure if this has been posted before, but there's a link in there to an article with information about classes, the spy part is pretty cool. Also, it mentions the release date is October (again, probably posted before already).
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/791/791200p1.html
The Spy's ultimate rouse is to fool an opposing Medic into healing him. Though you don't earn the powers or weapons of a class you're pretending to play, an opponents' medi-gun will still heal the Spy. You can even be turned invulnerable by the Medic. So if you play your role properly, you can trick a Medic into turning you invulnerable, then drop the disguise and gut everyone. When pulled off, it's a phenomenal sight.
It should be noted that your disguised Spy will appear, in every way, to be working for the opponent. As a Spy, any shots fired will look like shots from your assumed role. And if you hit a friend, though you won't actually do damage, it will appear to the enemy that you have. You don't have to worry about fooling your real friends, though. To your allies, the Spy looks like his regular self, but with a cardboard cut-out mask of his disguised role. And all the while he continues to smoke his thing cigarette. Brilliant.

Spy sound sick. I like how they integrated that when the spy is disguised everyone on your team can tell you are on their team. That was one major fault in TFC's spy.

Ya Robin Walker, noone ever wanted to play medic in TFC. Still very very unimpressed.

ya redneck. they remove concs cause nobody plays scout, when you have a class like medic. then he says nobody plays medics, whatver.

he means that no body plays medic as it has intended to be played, as a support role. not mainly as an offensive role.

It sounds so lame tbh. "Everyone had way to much fun as medic, and it wasn't how we wanted the medic to be." They act like you couldn't be a support player as a medic which is totally retarded. Goto a 2fort pub and I'm sure there will be at least 1 idiot running around trying to heal his whole team (weather they need it or not). Whats next....

If you actually listen to what Valve is saying, then you will understand why they are making drastic changes to the game. They want to make each class a different experience for the player. In TFC, the scout and medic are very similar aside from their base class speeds. It makes sense to make the medic entirely a support role in TF2. All of the classes together will contribute to achieving map goals, which are mostly AvD style. The point of TF2 isn't to DM and rack up the frags, it's to work together as a team to complete an objective. Sounds like fun to me.

I'll bite....The only 2 similar things about the class are; they both are predominately offensive based, (which of course, any class can play offense). And they both get concs, but then you have Demos and HW's getting mirvs and every class except Scout getting nades, so I fail to see how they are similar in any relevant fashion.

May 29th, 2007, 03:05 AM
Marchy, you actually play TFC, right?
They both have the same weapons (Medic gets a SUPER shotgun and a SUPER nailgun, holy cow), they both use concs (as you stated), and they both are the main offensive classes for any competitive clam (as you also stated). Those all seem like very relevant similarities. The medic is just a buffer and slightly slower version of the scout. If you can play medic, then you can play scout. The line between each is blurred in TFC, whereas in TF2 they are distinctive: scout avoids combat with speed and movement and medic supports combat with healing ray gun thingy.

Do you actually play TFC? Playing as a medic is very different from playing as a scout. As a med you have frags and alot more health, so you can actually take some damage and dish some out as well. Someone who usually only plays med would have to adjust their strategy quite a bit to play scout.
When I play med, I want to go into the enemy base, kill most of them and get the flag. When I play scout, I just want to blow past everyone and get the flag out. TF2 doesnt look like it has a quick and powerful offense class.

you totally missed my point Hellfire, so i'll help you out, since it's obvious you are either new, don't play one of the two classes or both.
The only weapon a Scout and Medic share are the Single barrel shotty, but I guess if you knew what you were talking about, you wouldn't have to be uselessly and desperately defending yourself. Even though I didn't really mean any offense. I was just trying to make fact of your false information.
My point was, while they have a couple similar things, other classes do too...meaning you cannot say they are very similar in RELEVANT way. (Key Word there)
A Spy is a predominately Offensive class, as well as the Medic and Scout, but other than the Super Shotgun (which is not relevant because so many other classes get it). They are completely different different styles of offense.
Incase you missed my last post, other classes can play offense too. Is that similar? In a psuedo sort of way sure, but nothing relevant.
While I think some select classes can do a few similar things, each and every class has core abilities that no other class can come close to doing.

Thank you TFC Masters Marchy and nicholai for your infinite wisdom of the game.
So a medic can take one more rocket than a scout, big deal. Show me a medic who cannot play scout, or vice versa. Of course the medic has frag grenades and can dm more than a scout, if the classes were exactly the same then no one would play the weaker class.
I think you both are missing my point that the experience of playing scout and medic in TFC is similar: You conc around and use your speed to get by enemies to get to the flag.
It's a given that scout avoids combat because he essentially can do no damage and that the medic DMs more because he has frag grenades. BUT - no other classes in TFC are as closely related as the scout and medic, which is why I said it makes sense for Valve to distinguish them in TF2 because they want a completely different experience for each class.

HellFire is right, I don't know how you can play both classes and say that they aren't similar. Of course they aren't exactly the same, but they are too similar to be two different classes.
TF2 doesnt look like it has a quick and powerful offense class.
The TF2 scout looks like its going to be a lot like the TFC medic, because unlike the TFC scout, he will actually be able to kill shit while using his speed and double jump to dodge attacks. Apparently the baseball bat, and the new scattergun weapon do a lot of damage from close range.

Without knowing the game or speed of play, we cannot really can't base any opinions about the game itself. Right now people are just trying to compare TFC to TF2. I know this has been said in just about every thread, but it's true. It's a new game that's completely different from TFC.
Who knows your fast and powerful offense class could be the soldier, but like i said before we don't know the speed of play or how the game itself is going to play out. All i know is this new look and ideas of gameplay really interests me for a Team Fortress game ;)

Playing as a medic is very different from playing as a scout.
True statement, but you're coming from the wrong perspective. Look at all the classes as a whole. Ask yourself what are the two most similar classes. The answer is clearly medic and scout, especially in clan matches.
Medic in TFC was not meant to be the main offensive threat. It was meant as a support class. TF2 is looking to fix that.

Thats not entirely true, a previous preview has shown there will be spawn delays 10-20 seconds. Which possibly points to the way the dystopia respawn system works? Plus with the removal of concs and no bhop added to the game for advanced movement. I can say to a certain degree, the gameplay WILL probably be slow.

Thanks to some of the great physics in TF2, truly skilled players will learn to bounce their grenades off walls and ceilings in order to hit targets while remaining behind cover.
WOW! I wish we could do that in TFC....

on the scout... "...he makes up for with his incredible speed and aerial maneuverability" Dont know if there is bunnyhopping yet for sure, but you will be able to dodge and strafe jump still which is good.
Unless they are talking about that retarded double jump that they claim only the skilled can master.. i guess we will wait and see tho

June 27th, 2007, 11:02 PM
In the Catacombs interview, Robin said there would be no strafe jumping/strafe running etc. The ground movement speed is capped @ 100% according to him. That makes TF2's movement the same as CS:S except no speed-down nerf on jumping/landing.

Maybe we'll get lucky and bullets won't make you stop and stand out in the open so you can be shot more ala CS.

June 28th, 2007, 06:46 PM
thats exactly what i meant tho, the movement will still be there, just the rediculous gains in speed wont be, which is fine.
