I didn't see any threads that were all that interesting and since football season is about a month and a half away and I figured we could talk about it some. Peronsally, I can't wait to wake up on Saturday morning and start drinking and then walk down to the stadium to sober up by halftime and feel like shit! So who's your team and how do you think they will do?
My team is the Vols and we should win the SEC East. However, that most likely won't happen because Phil always loses a game or two he shouldn't. We are capable of beating every team on our schedule but I think we will lose to either UGA,UF, or Bama or maybe 2 of the 3.

The SEC east is going to be pretty even this year 1-6 imo. South Carolina will be much improved, Vandy has quietly become decent, and Kentucky will probably have one of the best two offenses in the league. I don't think the Vols will be great again until crappy Eric Ainge leaves, Florida replaces their entire defense, and who knows where Georgia will be next year. . . crazy times that will end with an SEC championship for my University of Kentucky Wildcats.

I was actually serious, the SEC east is going to be ridiculously competitive. . . Kentucky winning was just wistful thinking, I actually think USC is going to be the SEC east's representative in the title game.
Also Ainge only threw 16 TDs, 6 of which were to Meachem who always seemed to break tackles he shouldn't have and run 60 more yards for the TD. Ainge hasn't impressed me at all, Woodson > Ainge in every way.

Because UConn can't keep me warm at night; and because everyone else on this forum (save for Mulisha) hates them.
I'm actually a Clemson fan. I just root for USC to piss my friends that like the Fighting Irish off. It works wonders.

... as he watches balls sail 20 yards overhead. WR's aren't very good when their QB is pitiful and there is no running game for support.
at least calvin johnson had the ACC's best back in Tashard Choice so defenses couldn't TOTALLY focus on him. Benn won't have that luxury.

serial chilla, we're going to be really good again this year. We have like 14/15 starters coming back I believe. Our defense will be amazing as usual. If matt flynn just pulls a matt mauck and doesn't fuck up alot we have a good chance of making it to the NC game(as good as you can get while playing in the SEC). Kieland Williams and the running game will most likely step it up a lot from last years mediocre at best display. Our home/away schedule is perfect. Oh, and ranking will be top 5 to start the year so we don't need many teams to lose. Glenn Dorsey and Early Doucet could easily be top 5 draft picks next year so I expect them to be absolute animals.

M-State Bulldogs 2007 football schedule:
Thu, Aug 30 Loss to LSU - Skullfucking. LSU puts Mike "Lil' Favre" Henig out of the game by the 2nd quarter. LSU will figure out our offensive gameplan of Run up the middle, Run up the middle, Play-action sack, punt. 45-10 after LSU puts in their towel boys and cheerleaders in the 4th quarter to allow us to score. 0-1, 0-1
Sat, Sep 08 Win at Tulane - It isn't often that you lose to a school devastated by a natural disaster 2 years in a row, but we're we're out to make history here. I still think we should pull this one out somehow and figure out how to win, 28-24. Crooms and all of the sheep, kool-aid drinkers, and sunshine pumpers will ask where all the naysayers are and talk about how we're turning the corner and headed for Atlanta. 1-1, 0-1
Sat, Sep 15 Loss to Auburn - Another skullfucking that puts everyone talking last week back in their place. Lil Favre will come back for about 2 more quarters before breaking something again 38-7. 1-2, 0-2
Sat, Sep 22 Win vs Gardner-Webb - We manage to pull out a win here since we're playing a 1-AA team. Anthony Dixon runs all over them and Riddell, our backup to Lil Favre comes close to a 40% completion % 21-3. Crooms starts beating his fat... errrr... chest and makes excuses for the LSU and Auburn losses. Hey, did you guys know Sylvester Croom is black? AMAZING! 2-2, 0-2
Sat, Sep 29 Loss at South Carolina - The ol' ball coach has his way with us. We keep it within 3 touchdowns though, only because our defensive coordinator isn't a fucking dumbass like our head coach is. 30-14 2-3, 0-3
Sat, Oct 06 Loss to UAB [HC] - An embarrasing loss in poor weather conditions. We punt from their 35 yard line, and they have 2 big special teams plays, 17-14. After this game, for sale signs start popping up in Croom's yard. Crooms says he doesn't give a shit about the fans and doesn't do the call-in show. 2-4, 0-3
Sat, Oct 13 Loss to Tennessee - UT smites us like the wrath of God. Our only consolation is that Ole Miss is doing just as poorly in football, and we will content with them for last place in the SEC west. There is more orange than maroon in the stands, even though maroon is the only color that matters. 27-10 2-5, 0-4
Sat, Oct 20 Loss at West Virginia - Crooms has been a pretty bad coach, but he has croomed a couple of teams as well. Florida in 04, and Bama in 06. Guess what...this isn't an even numbered year so we lose to WVU 31-24. 2-6, 0-5
Sat, Oct 27 Win at Kentucky - With all hope lost, and everyone expecting us to lose out and fire Crooms, he pulls a win out of his ass here against a bowl-bound UK, 23-21. Crooms exclaims that he only needs one more year to get us to the national championship he promised us. 3-6, 1-5
Sat, Nov 3 Loss to Alabama - Holy shit. Is it fucking basketball season yet? After all, we do have a top 5 recruiting class coming in for 08, Jamont Gordon and Charles Rhodes returning, along with Tyler Hansbrough's brother (who cares if he has a real name). Should be a good year for basketball. Oh, my bad; our shitty football team is still getting their asses beat because of our dumb, fat, can't wear a hat straight, and punts from the other team's 30 yard line coach. 30-14 3-7, 1-6
Sat, Nov 17 Loss at Arkansas - Darren McFadden runs for a million yards. 42-21 3-8, 1-7
Fri, Nov 23 Win vs Mississippi - In his possible last game as MSU coach, Crooms will pull a win out over our rival for a 2-2 record vs them in his MSU career. He will use this record, as well as the fact that we had 4 wins instead of 3 to show "improvement" and demand for another year of getting paid out the ass to not coach worth a shit. 4-8, 2-7, not last in the SEC
Hopefully, this is the last year of this dumb fucking shithead. We hire Jimbo Fisher, that guy who coaches Boise State, or Tommy Bowden since Clemson is tired of winning 7 games a season and feel like he sucks, when in reality, they don't know how good they have it.

Texas lost 3 things this past season, 3 starters on our offensive line, our entire secondary, and our defensive coordinator.
Losing our secondary is arguably a good thing, because even though they won a bunch of awards, they were all terrible. Hopefully some sophomore youth can reinvigorate that part. We actually lost our co-defensive coordinator, and so our other co-DC will now be head DC. Big deal. Lastly, if you know anything about Texas recruiting, I'm not too worried about our offensive line, nor will I ever be for the rest of my life. That's one of the positions that always stands out even among an all-star recruiting list.
Aside from that, if you watched Colt McCoy pre-injury, the kid is a college football phenomenon. He added about 20 pounds of muscle over the off-season (I've seen him on campus, it's a very noticeable difference). We ran a shared time running back system last year and our fumble-prone guy is now gone, while the current guy Jamaal Charles decided to stop beating everyone in track and bulk up a bit for football. We also have the 9th easiest schedule of this according to ESPN, so as long as our OCoordinator realizes he's not a fucking pussy and calls something more than a side-out I think we have a pretty good shot of playing one of the SEC teams in New Orleans in January :) (God that would be debauchery)

Michigan's offense oughta be very good, I'm hoping that Mike Hart gets some Heisman consideration this year because he deserves it. Their defense has some big holes to fill, but once again it will probably come down to beating OSU, and I feel they have a great chance of that.

LOL Craven, it's a football thread, it just soo happens College football is a bigger deal in the south then in most other regions.
Predictions:
Pac-10 champ: USC (my god they are loaded this year)
Big 12 champ: Texas (long as their quarterback stays healthy)
Big 10: Michigan (magizines actually have wisconsin as winning it but reloading at qb is never an easy transition)
Big East: WVU (Louisville is in coaching transition making it even easier for WVU)
ACC: Virginia Tech (Last year they had a new QB and by the end of the season were the best team in the ACC. Now lets see how a seasoned QB plays)
SEC: LSU (not b/c they are the best team, but b/c all their hard games are at home)
Heisman: BOOTY for being on a team created from the best of the best recruiting.

we have a whole new set of WR's, new RB's, new QB, new DLine, new LB corp, and a new DC (switching our scheme from are 43 to a 34). so many questions....
i'd be thrilled with 7 wins and a bowl win. it'll be interesting at least.

Whack-10: USC, because the rest of the conference is absolutely god awful
Big 2 plus 10: Texas, because it's either them or LOLklahoma pounding Nebraska in the championship
Big 11: Michigan. OSU lost everyone who was good, Wisconsin will do good for a while and then everyone realizes what a joke of the schedule they have.
Big Least: Either WVU or Louisville. They'll both have enormous hype because they run up stats against shitty teams. It really depends who beats who.
ACC, more like gay cc amirite?: Either FSU or Miami. It won't be VT because they'll just fall apart at the end like they do every year since they have like 32 holes in their offense.
SEC SPEED: It's really up in the air. LSU and UF are on the downslope from last year, while Tennessee, Arkansas, and Georgia are on the upslope. Someone's season can go bad very quickly, so we'll wait and see.
edit-
Heisman: Darren McFadden in the most laughably huge margin in Heisman voting ever. The other two guys won't even be invited.

First I think most of the criticism from last year came from anti-SEC people that feel the conference is overrated. When criticism comes from such a group, it becomes more of attacks then nonbias criticism. In which case, the SEC fanatics got defensive, and reasonably so.
I for one feel I am a very nonbias football fan, even though I'm a SEC fanatic. And I do agree moniker is either trying to be funny with his predictions or way off on the skill level around the nation.

Honestly, do you think that there is a better conference than the SEC? Yes, they aren't the best every year, but USUALLY they do have the best teams. They went 6-3 in bowl games last year, and the SEC usually plays a team from another conference that finished higher than them (ie the SEC #4 might play the ACC #3). And yes, I know that PSU beat UT and Wisc beat Arkansas.

Had to quote it. Absolutely excellent.

I'd suggest coming to the VT game just so you don't have to watch the ridiculous VT shootings vs. hurricane katrina commentary on TV.

No I am not going to Morgantown unless we're undefeated going into the game.
Redneck: If the game is at LSU, do not wear colors that are not purple in gold. If you are female you will get raped, and if you're a male you'll probably still get raped and possibly get the shit beaten out of you and feces thrown at you. Just some friendly advice.

I was at a UGA game in the Auburn section back when Alabama was undefeated. When news came that they lost to LSU the entire stadium rocked with cheers and a guy who was wearing a Bama hat got dumped on him, by my estimates: A full can of dip, at least 3 jack and cokes mixed by the ugly sluts who were sitting in front of me, 2 sprites, a hotdog with all the fixins on it, and a hamburger prepared the same way. Made me glad I wore my Auburn shirt that day lol.

I am an LSU alumni, and because of the horrible sportsmenship of LSU fans, I rarely pull for my own university.
