Quoteworthy (from UFC President Dana White):

“As crazy as this sounds, this is the pinnacle of my seven year career in this company. I’m so excited to have this guy under contract. He grabbed my arm and looked me in the eyes like one of his pre-fight staredowns and he said ‘I’m gonna fight so good for you, you’re gonna see the best fights ever from Wanderlei Silva…. This guy is a real fighter. He reminds me of Chuck Liddell, and he’s the kind of fighter that all fight fans love to see fight. He’s a gunslinger. He will get in harm’s way to inflict damage and pain. This guy comes out like a speeding train and never stops. He goes for the finish, he likes to knock people out, and I just think he’s going to bring so much excitement to the UFC, I feel like I’m going to jump out of my skin.”

Former PRIDE FC middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva will return the Octagon in December for the first time in more than seven years — no opponent has been named at this time. “The Axe Murderer” is a light heavyweight who was almost booked to fight former 205-pound champion Chuck Liddell at UFC 76: “Knockout” in September.

Holy shit, Wandy's back. Who are they going to throw at him first?

i had a feeling he was going to return.

5 guys that wanderlei (31-7-1) would make for an awesome fight against (no particular order):

Renato Sobral 27-7
Chuck Lidell 20-4
Quinton Jackson 27-6
Rashad Evans 15-0
Tito Ortiz 16-5

Light Heavyweight is a pretty stacked division imo. gonna be interesting.

I don't follow the sport or anything about the athletes, but wouldn't 7 years be... well... a really long time? In a lot of sports (football, basketball etc..) that'd be a ridiculous amount of time to be out of the competition? What would make one think he'd be up to par?

Wand is preparing for a december fight... on the new years card... barring chuck doesn't get injured during the jardine fight, the UFC would be stupid to not put on the most anticipated fight of all time on their biggest ppv event of the year

He's been fighting in PRIDE during those 7 years, it's just been that long since he's fought in the UFC.

It's a fucks shame that the Axe Murderer is passed his prime, but still nonetheless a heavy contender.

Fedor vs CroCop would be nice.

I still pull the hater card when crocop got knocked out by gonzagas high kick. His own venom unleashed on him.

Still has the most devastating kicks in the game imo.

I kinda want to see arlovski vs crocop simply b/c you know the fight would never end up on the ground with those 2 gunning for the KO

I want to see Wandy vs any striker. We saw against Arona how a lay and pray artist and put Wandy off his game and turn the fight into a snore fest, and there's no greater LnPers in the LHW division than Evans, Ortiz, and Babalu.

Wandy vs Forrest would be great.

And yeah, it's been 7 years since he's been in the UFC, not fight. He went to PRIDE and was their middle weight champ for like 5 or 6 years.

Past his prime? Did you watch the GP? Fedor himself would've had a hell of a time beating Cro Crop on that night, let alone the top 205lber. Wandy's loss to Hendo was a bit of a disappointment yes but at the same time he did have the flu? It's hard to dominate for such a long time in MMA when a fight could end so quickly from a single punch or kick yet Wandy did it for 5 years. Let's see how his next couple fights go before we say he's past his prime at the age of 31.

And to celebrate, here's my favorite fight and knockout of all time in Wandy vs Rampage 2 in its entirety

It's more of the fact that Dana White is basically a faggot and won't let Fedor's sponsors Red Devil Sport Club and the promotion of their Russian M-1 club. Also the UFC won't allow Fedor to compete in world tournaments outside of UFC such as sambo.

Also Wandy is in no way as good as he was 5 years ago. He's lost to hunt, cro-cop, henderson, and arona all soundly. It's true he could have very well been in a slump but if you watch and compare his fights from 5 years ago plus to fights in the past 4 years you see a different fighter.

Personally I think they should milk it a bit and save the fight vs Liddell for later next year, like say maybe... I dunno early summer like Next July. I would rather see Liddell win, then Liddell get his rematch vs Rampage in December or early next year and then build that towards a potential title fight vs Liddell. If Chuck loses against Jardine or loses his rematch against Rampage that opens up a big money fight early next year. I personally think Chuck vs Wandy anytime before the new year is just not a smart business move.

UFC has pushed these fights though. They gave Chuck to Rampage after only 1 fight in the UFC, same thing happened with Silva and Franklin. Odds are Wandy vs Chuck in December but I think it's a mistake if they do.
