Yeah, it's quite unoriginal.. And all but one of the maps use that same format too. Compared to the new stuff we saw introduced with previous official TF/TFC releases, it's kind of a let down to me.

just wait until the community gets to map. Trust me, If TF2 (and yes, FF too) holds my attention, and not Portal, I'll be shelling out maps of different styles, game plays, fun, escape, etc.
One of the BEST things about fortress mods are the addition of MAPS made by the COMMUNITY.
Infact, if TF2 doesn't allow it. I'm going to hitch hike from ND down to where ever Valve headquaters is, and punch that sob that thought it would be a good idea not to allow custom maps to be made.

I thought that the idea of a command point map with sequential capture points, but a random order of how to capture the points was pretty original. Actual ff official maplist has what, 2 actual new maps that aren't even supposed to be released in the first release, and all of the maps are in the same old tfc style right? Just saying ;)
I hate to say this, as I've always enjoyed capture the flag, but I've seen more ctf style games that do not perform very well anymore and command point/multi-objective style games do much better. As the valve developers have stated in an interview, it allows a broader use of the entire map as opposed to using just one team's base if the entire other team is on defense.

should make a map that plays like UT2k4 bombing run!!
tons of strategy in that, :)

TF2 is releasing with few different styles of maps. It has CTF, the command point system we saw in the well video, AvD with dustbowl (only it's changed to 2 points that need to be captured in each area without flags), and the new Hydro gameplay with random points/routes.

yes.
also I think its a great idea. in every public DoD and DoD:S server, basically everybody on the team is working towards the objectives of capturing points. compare it to a typical public TF server- how many players are actively attacking or defending the flag, and how many miss the entire point of the game and just deathmatch? The control point style of map just naturally lends itself more to teamplay in public servers, especially when the visual elements are so helpful in telling the player what the objectives is- ie, the pleasing status bar that fills up as you occupy an area. There is a certain satisfaction at seeing the bar fill up that subliminally encourages players to complete the objectives.

That, and the game tends to end or everything gets reset when a team manages to capture all the points. It can be 0-0 or 200-0 in CTF and it doesn't matter.

Addressing the "it doesn't matter" aspect of CTF played a big part in the design of FF. Finding the time to implement some of that design has been a challenge though.
What I meant about TF2 was, they have capture the documents(ctf), and the BF2 capture point system. I suppose you're right, they have shuffled them around a bit on some of the maps and Hydro is a cool idea. I would have liked to see more variety from Valve is all. I'm sure their release maps will be awesome. Compare that to the breadth of 1st party maps included with and released in Valve's previous TF games though, and you'll see my point.
Certainly the community mapping side of things will be important for TF2. Valve unfortunately has stated in the past they wouldn't necessarily have that stuff available to the community when the game is released. Hopefully they do!

As long as the new maps are better efforts than Ravelin I think everyone will be happy :)

good lordy that was(is) a piss poor map.

ravelin would be an absolutely awesome pub map if they ditched the crappy door idea and loaded it up on 20 man servers or something
