You've met the Heavy, You've met the Soldier. In a few short days you'll be able to meet the Engineer, the third character to introduce himself from Team Fortress 2. The high-definition movie will be posted on Steam early next week.

While the Heavy considers bullets-per-minute the measure of a man, and the Soldier values an unusually deep knowledge of military philosophy, the Engineer is content to solve problems. Practical problems. Click the thumbnails for a sneak peek.

In other TF2 news, stay tuned for a pretty big announcement next week. You're going to want to hold off on planning any vacations until you hear what we've got to say on Tuesday.
I wonder what will be exposed Tuesday???

I'm guessing that Valve is releasing TF2 to all the Valve Partner Lan Centers. Redman061, who owns a lan center and owns the site, got wind via email from Valve that they are possibly releasing TF2 2-3 weeks before the release date to all the Lan Centers.

I bet (hope) they will either announce a free preview weekend, or allow you to play a version of the game with one map after preordering it like they did with cs:s

i've heard word of possible pre-order for the orange box and the people who pre-order receive a TF2 demo with a single map to play.

I've gotten word that doctor doom will be sleeping at Mike's house and lan center once tf2 arrives via email from valve for 2-3weeks before the release date.

Maybe, but that doesn't sound like very big news. Most people probably don't live near a lan center and won't give a rats ass. I hope they wouldn't make such a huge deal like this just to announce that. I would be disappointed if thats all valve had to say, but I suppose it would be better than "TF2, Summer 2008!"

I'm still holding out for a message that goes like this:
"OK, its ready to download now."

i'm gonna be pissed if thats what the news is...... i want a playable demo, i'd even be happy with a pre-load, just knowing its sitting on my computer will make me happy

They should definitely do a pre-load....otherwise the steam network is gonna be ugly the night/day of the release

September 10th, 2007, 12:30 PM
i agree on the pre-load. i remember one time steam required an update on a thursday night at 930. since everyone was on for tfl, all the servers timed out and TFL had to be postponed because nobody could update lol.
but yeah, i'm also hoping it's something more than a preload. they hyped that news up to make it sound like something crazy.. if there is no gameplay involved then i'm going to be somewhat disappointed.. ideally, a 'surprise attack' release would be in our favor, but probably not theirs

My guess is they'll let people who pre-order some package on steam to start playing TF2 early.
Also, Valve has been pre-loading pretty much every major release since HL2. There's really no question about them not doing it for this. This is one of the huge advantages to steam.

Rumor has it that someone started a rumor about some uncertainty regarding the questionables surrounding the mystery.

I would look for something in the form of a steam news post. Valve likes to release stuff like this at 10pst so maybe there will be something in 45 minutes.

lol tf2 beta on ff release day
guess that release date plan didn't work out too well for FF team
I'm preordering this shit!!

September 11th, 2007, 01:41 PM
The link doesnt take you to where you can preorder it, it just lists a bunch of games. But if you search for Team Fortress through steam, you can get the pre-order button, but when you click on that you get an error stating "specified subscription is invalid"

you have to preorder thru steam, not their website

I don't think it's a coincidence that the valve put this out with FF's announcement of their release date. I say FF should beat the big company to the draw, and up their release date to this FRIDAY or SATURDAY so people can get a good weekend of playing before TF2-beta comes out.

Pretty cheap to force us to buy all that crap (single player stuff) just to play TF2, I like how they make it seem liek tf2, ep2, portal all are 50$ values lol.

So if I purchase the Orange Box, I get HL-2... but I already have that... so am I going to have it twice in Steam when I buy the "orange box"?
Plus, I like having the media... but I don't get cd/dvd/whatever if I purchase it through Steam right?
I haven't done shit through steam before... when I built my new computer I reinstalled HL from my original cd, and HL2 from a store bought CD. The only thing I have done through steam is launch HL2, and download game trailers.
EDIT: I think know part of the answer.... I am going to have two HL2's... I found this at the bottom of a screen on the steam website...
Already own Half-Life 2 or Half-Life 2: Episode One?
Give your extra game as a gift to a friend when you purchase The Orange Box.
Gee, thanks, Valve... how thoughtful of you.

This is ubelievable news. Individually these 3 games: HL2:EP2, TF2, and Portal all bought separately through Steam will cost you 80 bucks anyways. You save yourself 35 bucks by pre-ordering, and get to play TF2 much earlier, so who cares if you have an extra HL2 and HL2:EP1, that makes no difference.

September 11th, 2007, 02:35 PM
Exactly it's more like it is thrown in for free, not charged extra for a package..
TF2 alone cost the same amount as the entire package!!

what would be the best beneficial way for me to buy it?? pre order online and buy the orange box from the current hl2 account that i have? or buy the orange box and order a new account? im confused cuz i've never done this before. just wondering how many accounts/features i'll get in the end, and i want to make the best decision before i buy it.

if you already have an account with HL2, it would be in your best interest to use a new account or an account with just HL1 mods.
this is all depending on how much it really matters, if you want everything on one account that is up to you.

I was thinking about that since I already have 2 accounts due to the Silver HL2 package and then it hit me. I'm going to get it on my current HL2 equipped account and then I can just gift HL2 and Ep1 to my other account. That way I won't have to switch between them to play stuff I bought through steam like Bioshock.

I just have one steam account, which is fine by me, having all my games on one account works for me... I only have pc, and if I had more, I am still the only one here playing games...
So I am purchasing the ORange Box pre-order, and its asking me which games do I want to install... if I am going to gift HL2, should I uncheck it so it doesn't install?
EDIT: NVM... didn't install it... won't get the ability to gift HL2 until orange box launch date.
BoSlim

can't install it if you already have it installed anyways. If you look at the file size, the only thing I installed and tried was that pebble game which was 20mb, when I unchecked HL2, HL2:EP1, and Lost Coast that file size didn't change, it was always at 20mb.

Sooooo the Valve guys have been watching the FF team closely enough to make sure they didn't get the jump on them? Are you actually implying that they are afraid of FF and HAD to create this beta event to pull one over on a mod team?
Heck, I've been excited for FF as much as anyone but I'm pretty sure that, yes, it IS indeed a coincidence.
It's a TF conspiracy!! Call the feds!

I not even going to think about spending a penny on this game until I get to try it for free.
