I post this as a simple account of what early early match play would be like (without league rules/cfg's) for those who are curious.

So today myself wonka sno janordy axe omega phantom loche faze manimal played otz (made up of old top qtf players) on 2fort and hydro.

On 2fort we capped they didn't. However since it was first to 3 despite us being up it went to sudden death of which they were prepared for and we were not. So they ran heavys soldiers medics only and we had the same classes and lost. Overall 2fort with sudden death was boring.

Hydro was alot more fun, and we ran the whole medic rampage strat like them, however they had a rape sniper which kept us at bay. We were up like 2-1 or 3-1 but again failed to meet the stupid requirement after 30 minutes and went to sudden death. This sudden death was alot more fun since we ran the same thing as them (medics heavy solds galore). However with 20 seconds to go their sniper raped our last 2 guys for the win.

All in all the scoring system is seriously retarded in what at least we played. And sudden death should not be such an easily used method one league play starts. Though the play was extremely smooth compared to FF scrims I've played, no lag at all. I recorded both rounds if anyone wants a demo that really cares.

lag in FF depends on the server (just like it does in TF2). I played some really smooth FF and some really laggy FF. I played some really laggy TF2, also.

I'm not excited about TF2 league play. It is CS with a facelift.

oh im glad you guys played hydro! hahaha, I think that has some serious potential.

You should try limiting classes next, I think we are going to try this on our KHR server:
3 engineers
2 spies
3 demoman (because they are really good on offense actually..)
unlimited scouts
unlimited medics
unlimited soldiers
2 hwguys
unlimited pyros
2 snipers

why this... try playing dustbowl on cp2 against three (semi decent) engineers... I racked up 30+ kills, and 70+ points just on cap point 2.

Somethings were thinking about for our upcoming scrims.
removing respawn timer (if possible...) for ctf_2fort
remove the dramatic deathcam at the end (to speed up respawn/allow you to see around like in TFC when you die so you can give comms)
and finally force a scrim in highlander style.

stop making excuses for sucking

On a side note, is there a way to turn off sudden death? Perhaps taking game scores as final instead of sudden death would be the way to go.

Sudden death was so dumb, cause we raped them until sudden death came along, then they just camped back healing.

FF's default tic rate is a freaking 30. That is horrible. If FF can address the tic rate issue it would fix a lot of the smoothness and lag issues. TF2 runs at 100 tic just like CSS just is why it is smoother.

someone should avi a part of the sudden death or something. I'm tired of seeing these polished up ingame videos taken by valve. I just wanna see the game for what it is (losely) before spending the money on a beta :P

Sure but really don't expect much, seeing as I played scout 2fort and medic hydro.

Limiting classes is not the answer. I dont have TF2 yet but I sincerely hope that server admins do not start limiting classes. That is a sure way to shoot this new game right in the foot.

highlander league would be freaking sweet!

1 of each class only for those that wernt around for highlander

If you don't leave the respawn you can change classes without being killed.

dang, exactly how i thought it would go. except once you guys perfect a strat and other kinks i bet no one would score.

I guess if you count the scoring system no one did score. anyways a good sniper is going to win matches if it comes down to sudden death. headshots rape people with meds.

im curious, so one question. do you guys think you were way better players than the opposing team? it seems you had a good lineup. im just wondering if the skill factor can totally be negated.

ohh and did anyone try spy?

yeah it was pretty fun, but i'm still not sure how scoring works in this game. it's like you don't get any points on some CP maps unless you get an allcap or something?

Agreed. I am confused, as well. I played with DH on one particular server last night, and on 2Fort we beat the other team 3-0 like 3 times in a row before it moved into a final sudden death round. I just don't understand. I presume its screwed up because its still beta, at least that's my hope.

And on cp maps like Well, we dominated and always had the middle cap (giving us a 3 caps to 2 advantage) we still lost, and forced into sudden death. I thought the point of cp maps was to control the majority of points, if not all of them? Hell, I think we even had 4 out of 5 at one point before having to go to sudden death.

Aside from that, and my microphone not working in game for some reason (and I have a X-Fi Fatality sound card), my first "full" night of gameplay in TF2 was an absolute blast. I am really starting to get the hang of playing scout, and played some medic on the side (I always enjoy a pure support role), and then I fell in love with demoman, too... without having to use any sticky gren's. I think demo's may be the new "newb" class... because I did the best with that class from the moment I started playing with it, and I typically suck at any type of "direct combat" role. I could just lob grenades at places, and other skirmishes from afar, and watch the splatting gibs. Awesome!

for capture the flag, at the start of the round, it will say how many you need to get a team point. i dont know if this setting or what not can be changed but on 2fort i have always seen 3. you have to get 3 caps before you get 1 team point.

now if it is cp, it depends on which one. if there is 5 points your team has to secure on different spawns you have to secure them all to have 1 team point.

if it is a cp map with 3 cap points and with only 2 spawns the whole map, one for each team. in this case you have to capture each point in the time limit or defend atleast the last point with in the time limit to get a team point.

this in turn would mean if you wanted to win without sudden death making it a tie or win of the other team you would have to get 6 caps on 2fort. sudden death in clan matches would just be horrible. i know id personally hole up in basement with 2 sgs, 2 hwgs, 2 soldiers, 2 meds a pyro or a sniper outside.

if you do not get one full point you will go in sudden death to get a full point. which happens 80% of the time ive played. ohh and im sure you can turn sudden death off. i was in a game where it just ended at a tie.

now a question i would have is lets say on ctf 2fort. if read team gets 3 caps and gets one point. the score resets and round 2 starts, red and blue both get 0 caps after that. round runs out. is there another sudden death that will give the blue team a chance to even it.

i think the answer might be yes, cause i had something similar happen. it was on a cp map and my team dominated. we got all the cap points and got one point, then we got all the cap points but the last one. this resulted in a sudden death and they got it and tied our 1 point with 1. ending 1 to 1 for their 45 seconds of hard work, compared to our 30 minutes of domination.

The match was very fun for me until sudden death. The scoreboard bugging out and not giving us points was kinda gay, but it is just a beta. I'd say we had a more skilled team, but the reason it didn't matter was more because we just didn't understand how the game works and we had less teamwork. They clearly practiced or set a strat before while we just played exactly how we would play TFC.

I killed their whole offense in the basement.

Twice.

Other than that, I ran around swinging a jug of moonshine at scouts.

I had fun but i agree the old match play style doesnt work here, but im certain someone will come up with a system that does. cp maps are much more fun imo.

I think it will work out better if the teams are rewarded points for how long they hold capture points versus the current way it is now (getting points only by all capping). I kind of dislike the sudden death mode as it only encourages camping. I would like it more if it was done by whichever team had the most (capture) points at the end of the sudden death won.
