Awesome...I was preloading MW2 on Steam for the last 6 hours and it was 90+% done. Then midnight hit and preload stopped downloading, so I select Install, and it starts the download from 0% again.

Re: COD MW2 and Assassins Creed 2

360 Questions:

Me and a buddy played Sniper Fi on veteran difficulty 6 times in a row. Beating it easily all 6 times (coop spec ops mode), yet we did not receive three stars. What gives? We destroyed all vehicles, thinking we had to blow them all up or something with no luck either. It allowed us to complete 'The Pit' on veteran and get three stars with no problem. What gives?

I was thinking.. maybe he has to set his difficulty to veteran as well, but then I think of playing the pit previously, and I don't think he changed or set it at all. We also completed the pit in under 30 seconds but I did not receive the achievement for that either. I take it you cannot get that achievement in coop mode?

played some MP yesterday; really think leveling up and perks are dumb but I suppose years and years of CS and CS:S changes my perspective on "tactical" FPS and it keeps people playing.

Really wish it had dedicated servers, one game crashed cause the host was lagging or whatever. I'll prob play it a bit with friends but won't go solo MP much.

36 people of how many? Some people were using it as a petition to wake IW up and well it didn't work. I never played mw mp but know dedicated servers would make it better however the player count is fine. The game is respawn heavy and not round based like cs, dedicated servers just build a community and well remove unneccssary lag.

I had a lot of fun in the 4 or so hours I've put into the mp. Already level 19 and will continue to play it for as long as it keeps my interest and hope it doesn't turn into killzone 2 and I quit after 2 months.

i can't see this getting old for a long long time... i played WaW and MW1 for eons and they barely had anything in terms of upgradability (compared to mw2) online.

kz2 had some upgradability, but the controls and turning speed killed it for me. i got all the classes and the additional abilities but that was only fun for so long. the new maps kinda sucked, too. the quality of previous CoD map packs gives me some faith that this'll last.

Re: COD MW2 and Assassins Creed 2

To me KZ2 became dull because I had no one to play with really on a regular basis. I was fine with the controls; despite hating console shooters previously and still prefer em on a PC any day of the week.

MW2 will only become tiresome IF the IW doesn't do shit for DLC or constant lag from the lacking dedicated servers. It will probably keep me from playing CS:S for a bit at least and something easy to jump into and play and find a server with 10+ people for at least a decent match.

Hope there is some sort of play with own rank option (within 5 ranks) eventually. So you can atleast get some competition in a pub (if you can even call it a pub).

Still have W@W, bought a copy and sold it when I got my free copy with my GTX280. I'll play the SP but won't touch the MP. Never played MW1 online cause I pirated my copy to play the SP which was fantastic on Veteran at the time.

Re: COD MW2 and Assassins Creed 2

**POSSIBLE MINOR SPOILERS BELOW**

Bumping because AC2 is fucking incredible.

But regardless of how much I love it, I must say that I liked the first game a ton as well. Yes it was repetitive, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the hell out of it, I could run around the cities for an hour doing no missions and still have fun.

The story/graphics/combat/assassinations have all been improved, as well as adding a ton of extra things, more side-missions (with great rewards), fun parkour rooms and even chariot races, it's funny, this game feels like the old PoP games and AC1 blended together in harmony.

My only complaint so far is that as expansive as the "Animus Database" gets with people, places, things, etc. It'd be nice to be able to track the locations on the map, instead of going up to a high viewpoint, checking the picture from the database, and trying to scope out the place. Specifically for "The Truth" symbols you're tracking down.

But yeah, I am loving the game and my best guess is I am about halfway through, most likely I'll play through it a second time right away after I finish it!

Re: COD MW2 and Assassins Creed 2

So Dirby, there's one thing holding me back right now from getting it. The combat system. I've heard other than adding new moves, its relatively the same in terms of only one guy attacking you at a time, wait for him to strike, counter-kill, repeat.

I assumed they would've somehow made the combat more skill based in terms of actually fighting rather than just timing a counter-kill. Also, it always bothered me slightly that the enemies you weren't engaged with would just stand there waiting.

So, how has the combat evolved beyond the first game?

I try to do, what I can do, when I can do it.

Re: COD MW2 and Assassins Creed 2

The combat is very similar, it's not too difficult unless you're taking on tough guards but even then the difficulty is mediocre.

I dunno, I wouldn't let that hold you back, the game isn't meant to be a combat based game (at least IMO), there are new additions like using the hidden blade and then stealing your enemies weapon and killing them with it. I'd say you probably get more than one attacker now, but they never swing at the exact same time.

This. Haven't bought the game and probably won't. DLed the SP just to see how it was. Any MP FPS that rewards time invested in the game over actual skill is absurd. I miss games where every ability possible was included from the get-go but it required skill and hard work to master the possibilities (HI TFC). Yes I know there is skill required as well, but people know the point I'm trying to make.

Re: COD MW2 and Assassins Creed 2

I agree with Dirby's assessments. Also, there's nothing more satisfying than walking up to a group of guards, killing two of them with your double blades at the same time, then killing the other guard before he even reacts. I did this one last night and there were two groups together. Killed 2 together, one left in that group before he reacted, two more from the next group and jump assassinated the other guy before he could do anything else - it all happened in a matter of a couple of seconds. It was probably my most satisfying sequence yet.

It's definitely a much better game than the first, and I liked the first as well (but got bored with it after I finished everything).

Re: COD MW2 and Assassins Creed 2

I am enjoying the story a lot more so than the first. I love upgrading the city and playing all of it so far. I like that you can stab people in the back with your sword as opposed to just swinging and them blocking like in the first game. All the other stuff you guys mentioned I like too.

Pretty spiffy so far!

My only complaint.. is the cities don't look any better than the first game. For some reason, I liked the atmosphere of the first game much more than this (the outside environments are much better though). I don't think it looks bad, but it's still the same as the first as far as looks/graphics.

Re: Assassins Creed 2

I rented this since I bought the first one and wasted my money. The second one is a HUGE improvement over the first. I loved the fact that when I fell into the water....I DIDN"T DIE! I also like the fact that I can build up my city/villa. Being able to buy weapons/armor really adds to this game. I am really getting into this game. The story is really nice and the characters are top notch...I pissed myself when he said "It's a me...mario..." Debating if I should buy this game or rent this for another week. I never do replays but I don't feel "rushed" to beat it either.

Re: Assassins Creed 2

been playing AC1 while i'm home on my brother's 360... pretty much convinced me i need to buy one. i just got really fucking pissed at the game though during the 3rd or 4th assassination (the weapons merchant in jerusalem) cause when i was chasing the faggot through the city altair kept wanting to be a super badass parkour guy and randomly jumped up and hung from walls on the side, or started to climb a ladder i had no intention of touching while the asshat got away. pretty much every assassination i have tried so far has come down to a sword fight, while when its not a straight assassination i can rape people with my hidden blade. what gives, i want to actually assassinate someone with the hidden blade for a change.

Re: Assassins Creed 2

I would recommend it being a rental unless you REALLY love this game. It will take me about 2 rentals (I only play less than an hour a day) to beat this game. The game is good but not worth the $60 since I really don't see the replay value being so high. However, that is my bias view since I refuse to purchase action games. I only buy sports, rpgs, and online shooters since it either takes a long time to beat or has high replay value

Re: Assassins Creed 2

I was hesitant to getting ac2 also but dont regret it at all. much more to do which breaks up the monotony of the first game. money/purchase system are great with the exception that it becomes too easy....I'm a freaking millionaire half way thru the game by upgrading the villa so fast. Purchasing pictures weapons are armor aren't really an accomplishment anymore.

Things they took out of the first game I just dont understand:
Stealing: You can now pick 6 ppl's pockets in 1 second....wtf why did they change this, after a while picking pockets just isn't rewarding enough espeically once your noteriety goes up from this. cheapened stealing imo

no quick weapon switch for the knife. Its like they dont even want u to use this

killing guards in teh first game actually removed them from the city permanantly. now they spawn back. it was a passion of mine to kill them all.

When guards found a body they were all on high alert, and more usually came to check it out and found you. it was annoying sometimes, but it was realistic. Now they just seem to check out the body and shrug their shoulders.

but these dont ruin the game, I cant remember a game that put so many new enhancements/features to the sequel and the crazy part is the new features all work and aren't gay.

Re: Assassins Creed 2

I just recently got Assassin's Creed 2 and beat it completely (got all achievements - first game I've ever done this for). I really liked the game and it sucked me in enough to spend the time to do everything it had to offer.

I do have a couple of complaints:
  • The controls get in the way a lot. There are so many times I just wanted my guy to get the fuck down/off of something but he would keep grabbing or stopping at the edge of a fall - just fucking get down asshole. Or, you would finally get the asshole to jump but he'd grab onto some other ledge and you'd still be yelling at him to get on the fucking ground. This is all while being chased or attacked or actively trying to chase/attack someone else.
  • The back story. Just what the hell is going on? They explain nothing in the 2nd game I guess because they assume you've played the 1st. All I know is that the Animus thing lets me control a guy but why am I doing this in the first place? Who is this girl helping me out? Who are these other assholes helping the girl out? What's the deal with the Templars?

As for Modern Warfare 2 - you guys complaining veteran is too easy make me lol. You know at the beginning of the campaign right after you get out of the HMMV that you're the gunner for? Yeah, I continually die there then give up. I did beat it on the easiest setting, though. I like the co-op w/ Pigeons/Schwabam but other than that it's just bleh. The bad guys shoot you way too quickly and with way too much accuracy; it just pisses me off. I don't/won't play the multiplayer because humans cheat.
